Cascade
So partner has a takeout double of 2♠ and not a 1♦ opening.
Codo
Partner misbid his hand twice and you should know it? Amazing. He should have opened 1 Club, and he has a clear cut double of 2 Spade.
the hog
Disagree. Partner does not have a 1C but a 1D opening. If you open 1C, what are you going to bid over 1S? 2C? "Caloo calay, oh frabjous day". What a great bid! That really helps partner evaluate his hand. However, I agree that partner certainly has a t/o double of 2S. ochinko
We have a rule here that doubled part scores require a trump lead. Even though i wouldn't double here (for the same reasons as Double !), I would treat the favorable vulnerability as a doubled contract, and still lead a small ♠. phil_20686
I will stick my neck out here. I don't mind a dobule of 3♠. Its a hand where you woudl really like to know how aggressive your opponents are. If I think my opponents have been bidding v aggressively, then I will adjust my style and double when i think there is a chance of -2, like here. I could easily pick up 500 on a partscore hand. If my opponents have repeatedly been passive in partscore auctions, then its an obvious pass. People do have different styles here. I have known people who thought aka L cohens book, that JTxxxxxxxxxxx Was an obvious 3s bid at unfavourable opposite 1s opener. If i have seen this type of thing on a previous board dble is coming out of the box. I played with others who arent sure that KTxxxQJxxxxxx was worth a 3s bid at unfavourable. If i have seen that on a previous board pass is obvious. Most people play somewhere in the middle. I would think a dble is clear at matchpoints, and probably has something close to a zero expectation and teams. Probably a little positive. I would certainly double if i was a little behind. There is a chance of a large negative, but also a big chance of a large positive. Most of the time you collect -1 but get an added psychological bonus that it is harder for them to be aggressive on subsequent boards.
