Yes, bid 3S over 2S to show 4 cards.

I don't understand the 5D bid ? ( Maybe it's a typo and you really meant 5C as a cue ? )

My guess is at 3.

For me this would be a general directional ask often based on a good diamond suit.

Over 3 I would then play suits are cues agreeing hearts. So 4 appears to have denied a spade (if you cue 1st/2nd) and a club control. Although possibly if you think responder is rebidding a four-card heart suit then 4 is natural while we still explore for the best game.

Thinking about the problem some more, it's possible Opener with his 18 hcp, may have thought a 3S bid ( instead of the 3C cuebid ) would not be forcing.

But didn't partner's 2S bid establish a game force? If partner only had a minimum, he would have attempted to signoff with 2H ( even if were only 4 cards ) over Opener's Support DBL.

Even if responders 2 was only a one-round force, a raise to 3 is GF (natural slam try). We don't change trumps in an inv+ sequence without forcing to game.

So the 3 bid, combined with 4, got the aution off track. Responder never understood that opener had spade support, instead believing he had 3-card heart support and long diamonds.
