LMP Day 1 hands

Recommended Posts

Since nobody is posting NABC hands, here are a few from day 1. All at matchpoints.

1. None, LHO deals, QJxxxx, Jxxx, xxx, --

P-1H-P-?

You play Bergen raises.

2. Opponents problem. Favorable, RHO deals, AQx, x, x, AJ98xxxx

P-2C*-P-3C*

x-4C-P-4D

P-?

You play Precision and 3C was invite+ with diamonds. What now?

EDIT, sorry wrong spade honors.

Am I playing Precision on hand 1 as well as hand 2? Its somewhat difficult to reconcile this with the two opposing passes, even so, enquiring minds want to know. (The reason that I ask is that if partner is limited to a 14 count, it makes certain choices much more attractive)

On hand 1, I'm torn between 1 and 4. If we're playing standard methods, 1 is a lot more attractive. Even so, I think that I'd blast 4. Playing Precision, I'd immediately blast 4 (though I'm finding 2 perversely attractive)

On hand 2: Insufficient information about methods to make a meaningful response. For what its worth, I'm not fond of the 2 opening (yes, I have an eight card suit, but an Ace and a side King is a bit weak). I really dislike 4 (unless partner's 3 bid often conceals club support)

Its unclear whether 4 is an attempt to improve the contract (fleeing from clubs) or a strong forward going bid. If 4 is an attempt to improve the contract I'm passing and praying that we don't get doubled.

Sorry, you are playing Eastern Scientific on hand 1. On hand 1 you are me, on hand 2 you are Bart Bramley. Also I fixed the spade honors on hand 2.

Curt

Definitely blasting 4 on hand 1 (Though I am still perversely attracted to 2 might very well bid it)

The 2 opening looks much more reasonable. Still not sure if I'd rebid 4 in a no fit auction. Would probably still pass 4

1. 1S. Both opps have already passed once, so partner rates to have a strong hand. 3H gets the overall strength of my hand across but introducing my spades might help us if the auction gets competitive so I'll try that. I don't have a very strong opinion though.

2. I do play (something like) precision but I wouldn't open this 2C. Count me in for the appropriate minor preempt on the first round. If you did make me open 2C, I wouldn't volunteer 4C. What does 4D mean?

hand 1 I bid only 2. Both opponents passed and it looks like partner is very heavy, I don't want him to go overboard.

Hand 2, this is close, I am not usd of the methods but I think at least 30% of the time diamonds are gonna paly better than clubs, I will still bid 5, but 5 is a close second option.

Hand 1

The partnership is playing Bergen raises which means that

1. 2 is a dreadful misdescription of your hand (Partner is going to be expecting a lot more high card strength and less trump support)

2. 4 is a purely preemptive bid (there are lots of gimmics to show a "good" raise to 4M

Hand 2

The one bid that I would never consider is 5

This auction screams for a trump lead

#1 4. I'm not worried about the opponents finding a sacrifice, it's just that this seems like the best description. Opener will expect more in high cards for any of the below game raises (except 3, I guess) and I can't imagine not shooting out game.

#2 I would have bid 3 over the double. Now 5, though I have little confidence in it being right.

1. 4H. May be a problem on the next round but not this one.

2. Pass. Assuming I understand the auction correctly, I have quite a good hand for diamonds given my previous bidding. Not enough to bid 5 though, especially at matchpoints.
