helene_t
I can't imagine anything but dbl with the South hand. As North I would pass then. Might be wrong.
Cascade
I PASS. Looking at the two hands we seem to have a suitable dummy for a 4♠ bid but it is not completely clear we will win 10 tricks.
Hanoi5
I voted for x-4s but South should double only if it is take-out oriented. North should then bid 4♠ and I think 10 tricks will be fairly easy. I could understand South not doubling (3 aces and 2 Jacks?) but I would hardly inderstand North passing the double. 4♠ by South is an individual/bad bridge decision in my opinion. mich-b
Double with South (Good defense, good offense , ♠ suit).4♠ with North (good ♠ suit, some shape,4♠ over 4♥ often right). For me both calls are obvious.

pooltuna
I PASS. Looking at the two hands we seem to have a suitable dummy for a 4♠ bid but it is not completely clear we will win 10 tricks. I vote with Wayne. Yeah you can make 4♠ and it is an easy decision to say you would X and bid 4♠ seeing partner's hand. You could also be walking into a double. All you really should know is that partner is a passed hand. So I blame the OP 100% for a bad poll :P
P_Marlowe
X, followed by 4S. I dont think the suit quality is good enough to consider 4S.And even after a 4S bid, 4S should get passed out. With kind regardsMarlowe

Sry, we have 14HCP - mainly prime values, and a suitable shortage, why on earth should I pass? The only reason I can think of, that makes pass a distant possible option is, that you happen to play a style, who basically always opensflat 11 counts, e.g. if you play a 10-12 NT opening bid.But even than this just may mean, that they can make 4H, and 4S isa cheap sacrifice. andy_h
Dbl with South and 4♠ with North and yes, it's a wtp. If you don't ever act with South's hand you are just giving up to a preempt. AJAAJ and a shortage, I can't fathom a pass. North's three little hearts with values point towards bidding and our most likely game is in spades. Free
I don't see how and why anyone would pass the south hand, it's completely anti percentage. North's action is an easy 4♠ imo, passing with North would be resulting...

Phil
Dbl and 4♠. (pssst - IRL, these high level takeout doubles get taken out a lot more than at BBF).

No, it seems like a balancing double is defined by americans to apply at low levels only. Then again, if I define this position as low level.....
Fluffy
Not sure if you are joking Harald, but it is East who opens 4♥ in third position, west deals and passes

Balancing doubles mean you have the option to end the auction but don't.
