What's this double?

Dead penalty. If we had some sort of awkward 2353 shape (no stopper nor enough hearts to make a -ve dbl) we can bid 2NT showing 2 places to play as a natural 2NT doesn't make sense.

There is some debate about:

 

1S - p - p - x;

2S - x

 

as being takeout or penalty (I like penalty).

 

There is no debate about an overcaller rebidding the suit and getting doubles. 100% penalty, and I would expect to beat it soundly.

If it's penalty, partner can Dbl for T/O again. I think this is simply responsive (2NT to pick a minor)

 

Sorry Helene, should have stayed in the Netherlands, there you get 4 numbers for a Zipcode, for example

 

2000 = Haarlem

 

all the way up to

 

7600 = Almelo
