Quantumcat
I have a burning question about GIBs. Often when I play with them, there will be several in the bridge movie with exactly the same auction, same opening lead, same play by the non-GIB, yet they manage to play differently and make different numbers of tricks. Also sometimes a GIB will make a different bid to another GIB with the exact same bidding by the non-GIB. How is this possible? Aren't they all the same program? It is like adding 2+2 today and getting a different answer tomorrow! Are some people playing with a different program than others? Or is sentinence somehow emerging from the GIBs??? They are only allowed a finite amount of time to do this, and, i assume, they use a different random number at the start of their simulations, so gibs at different tables base their decisions on different sets of hands. I am not sure but I think in the robot tourneys...played at the exact same time the Gibs play exactly the same given exactly the same auctions, etc....... OTOH deals played at other times may differ. Time being the function. To phrase this another way...assume one deal.......48 tables exact same time, tourney, bidding.....etc....the bots lead and bid the same.......You do not get 48 different bot leads assuming all 48 bds the exact same......... next day....all the same...you may find all 48 bots lead the same today but different from yesterday. You may wish to double check the above.

They use the same program, but the program may generate very different random distributions which can lead to different bidding or playing decisions. It's not a surprise to me at all, cause in my old day's testing, gib really gives very different bidding and playing decisions for the same deal, some can be as extreme as passing 6 vs. raising 6 to 7.... Phil
Will you make the same bid or play on the same hand day in and day out?
helene_t
I am curious as to whether we all get the same random seed in robot tournaments. In the main room, I can't imagine we have the same random seed. Also, different users may have set GIB to different speeds, which also influences the GIBs behaviour. Rain
In the robot tourneys, I'm pretty sure the GIB play setting used by players who have rented GIB doesn't come into play. From what I understand, GIB play setting in the robot tourneys is all set to fast.
Gerardo
GIB on tourneys are running on BBO servers. These all run at the same speed. It is certainly far from the fastest available.
