somewhat crappy hand, but p seems to have goodies.

suppose you're playing with someone who you don't expect to pick up the slow route as a mild slam try. how would you bid there?

I would make a mild try myself with 4 club, hoping this shows a control. If this shows a suit, I make the bid which can be made with a mild slam try, whatever it is.

If my descissions are between: 4 spade to play and 4 NT... oh well... I choose the later.

A good idea would be to transfer to spades followed by

bidding 4S to show a mild slam invitation.

This assumes that you play texas transfer besides regular

transfer.

If not playing Texas, you can bid transfer, followed by 5S,

5S should be a quatitative invite.

With kind regards

Marlowe

I will transfer to spades and initiate control bidding. If your control bids include  second round control, 4C, else 4S to show a slam try in spades. (If no slam try, bid 4H or 4S directly, whichever applies to you)

Except your next call after a transfer isn't a control, its a second suit.

I would transfer and bid key card. True, the hand isn't that great, but I'm having a hard time coming with hands where we have enough controls where slam isn't decent and I can sensibly diagnose the problem.

As an aside, is the consensus these days that

... ...

2N - 4

4 - 5

is a cue (since we can jump to 5 over a Jacoby transfer as exclusion)?
