j_with_a_B
I sure hope you fix the problem that now TD's can no longer use GIB to give an approximation for for TD's! I rarely set up clocked Tourney's but often help in many that are clocked. GIB was an essential tool to determining the outcome of an unfinished hands in clocked T's! Although my time is free here it isn't cheap. I can hardly see how clocked T's will be able to continue without it. At least, please!, allow TD's to download and reinstall 5.0.3 some how so that can be available to them! I am not willing to just assign a A== to every table that complains. I will just tell folks to write an e-mail to uday@bridgebase.com if they feel they are not being treated fairly. I am sure you can resolve this some how soon. fred
John, It was my mistake, not Uday's, that caused this bug so you might as well tell people to e-mail me instead of Uday - that way I can delete such e-mails without responding to them instead of Uday having to do the same thing. Or maybe you could figure out that you are not the only person on Planet Earth who's time is not cheap. A likely result of you encouraging people to waste our non-cheap time is that it will take us longer to deploy a fix to this bug. Meanwhile, between now and the time in which we do deploy a fix, you might actually find it stimulating to try to not rely on GIB. TDs have managed to do this for 80+ years. I am sure you can live with the same inconvenience for another week or two. By the way, sincere apologies for the inconvenience. Feel free to pass on my apologies to your TD-friends and to the players in your tournaments. You can also tell them that we are aware of the bug and that we will deploy a fix as soon as it is practical and safe for us to do so. j_with_a_B
Fred, please do not mistake my frustration for maliciousness. That is certainly not the case. And, be aware, please, that that macro I was referring to has never been written. Point well taken about the fact that for a century or so there was never a GIB to help in live bridge tourneys. But, also, there were rarely live tourneys that had over 600 players playing at more than 150 tables, all demanding instant gratification... I rest assured with your promise that this will be fixed soon! I think of a quote I once read about the dancing pig... It was not that the pig could dance well or not that was worth mentioning, but what was most amazing that it could dance at all. To have done what you have done is amazing! Thousands of players all playing together from over a hundred different countries in dozens of different languages is truly an accomplishment worthy of consideration by the Nobel Peace Prize committee! I remain extremely impressed by your accomplishments. John
uday
We're mostly waiting to see what the full bug-impact of the upgrade is. At some point we'll be confident enough to say "this, and no more" and we'll release some sort of workaround. We'll probably use "Handviewer" for TDs (which has its own GIB button), supply a link to a manual download that fixes the problem or both. It will take a few more days before we're going to be willing to put up a downloadable fix, and a few more days after that to make the changes that invoke Handviewer for TDs.
