2S obviously in the second auction. They have stopped in 2D and you need to fight for the partial. It's very important not to sell out on a hand like this.

 

However the 1S overcall definitely the right bid, you don't need an opening hand to overcall at the 1 level (and you pretty much have an opening hand anyways).

 

Having overcalled 1S, what you bid depends on whether or not 2H is forcing. If it is not forcing you can just pass. If it is forcing you should rebid 2S, limiting your hand.

a 3c rebid here should show this distribution (natural), but apparently jlal feels this hand is too weak, even though partner has forced for one round. Is that right? Or is the premise that 3c is natural not agreed?

3 is anything but natural and fails to show this hand by strength and shape.
