andy_h
[hv=d=e&v=b&n=s85h9dkqj32ckq765&s=sj4hakqt85d97c943]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You're South, at ALL red, RHO deals and opens 1♠. You overcall 2♥, W bids 3♠ (5-9ish or whatever). North dbls, Pass, You bid 4♥ and it goes Pass, Pass, Dbl, All Pass. Full Auction:1♠ - 2♥ - 3♠ - dblPass - 4♥ - Pass - PassDbl - All Pass. So you have a few losers. LHO leads ♠K, won, then ♠Q, won. Then LHO switches to ♣J to the Q and Ace. RHO now continues the ♣8 to your 9, T and K.Hook or drop? Here may be some relevant facts: - Opponents are of an Avg level (x may just be aces or something, so you don't know if it's a "pure" penalty double)- East didn't cash ♦A but returned a club, and EV wise, which position would you take? karlson
Seems like east might have cashed out if he didn't think he had a trump trick. I'll hook. I don't see how they're making 4♠ (unless hearts are 1-5 or something), so the difference between -500 and -800 might not matter much. andy_h
Our clubs are good. It's the difference between +790 (guess right), -200 (drop fails) or -800 (hook fails and a club ruff is imminent).
karlson
Unless I'm missing something, they still get the ♦A if the drop fails.
Jlall
meh, it's really random, I'd just go with the clue that they may or may not double without Jxxx of hearts, and would always double with it. I don't read too much into them not cashing the DA, it's a stupid play either way.
Free
Reading the initial post I guess you believe that your partner should've finessed, or you finessed and it turned out wrong. Anyway I don't see a clear reason to play either way. It's indeed pretty random.
andy_h
Yeah it is pretty random. I thought the play highly depended upon the level of the opponents (RHO mainly). And with this particular one you may not want to risk 3 off? As it was, the player at the table hooked and that meant -800 when drop wins.
