bucc35
BBO is offerring a software update when I enter the site; my firewall rejects the file irsetup.exe as generic spyware. Should I override the firewall, or is the file coming from a source other than BBO?
fred
irsetup.exe is part of the BBO installation software. It is not spyware. The "ir" part stands for "Indigo Rose" which is the name of the company that makes that software we use to create installation programs ("Setup Factory"). Many software companies use Setup Factory to create their installation programs. So there are probably millions of different versions of irsetup.exe out there. No doubt some of these programs install spyware. It is also not uncommon for programs that install spyware to use the file names of common and legitimate programs in order to disguise themselves. Apparently your firewall is unable to distinguish between the irsetup.exe that we use and programs with the same name that are used to install spyware. If you are still concerned then please do a web search for "irsetup.exe". Anyways, this particular flavor of irsetup.exe is definitely not spyware. So, when you get this message when you try to enter BBO, it is safe to override your firewall. Phil
I got the spyware warning on AVG too when I installed. I thought it was strange, but I installed and no problems. On another note, I'm getting a script error message when I try to edit or create a new convention card with the new version. Suggestions to get around this? Suggestions to get around this?We fixed a problem like this the other day, but it is possible that your browser has cached the old version. First thing to try is to exit BBO completely and then clear your browser cache. Then log in again and see if the same problem occurs. If you still get a script error, please send me whatever details you can (feel free to use e-mail - fred@bridgebase.com). I will then be able to investigate and (hopefully) fix the problem. bucc35
Thank you; what a service! I will continue to try to download. but at the moment do not seem to be able to override the firewall. - even when I switch it OFF the download is rejected. I will keep trying. By the way my version of BBO is 5.0.3 is that reasonably up-to-date? Thanks again

The only suggestions I can think of are: 1) After disabling your firewall, restart your computer, and then try the download again. Make sure you turn your firewall back on again when the process is complete! 2) Get in touch with the technical support department of the company that makes the firewall. Explain the problem to them. I suspect they will be in a position to let you know how to get around it. For now it is not really a problem if you want to continue to use 5.0.3, but the time will come in which you are prevented from logging in with any pre-5.2.6 version. It is hard for me to predict when that might happen since it rates to depend on when we approach 20,000 simultaneous users for the first time. It would not surprise me if that happened in September during the vugraph of the World Championships. If it doesn't happen then I am guessing it won't happen until at least early 2010.
