Negative double

Both choices, 2 and 2 are reasonable. I would choose the later if I would be a better player then my partner.

So my common choice is 2 .

2... wtp?

A reopening double does not promise 4 spades...and this does not look like a hand that will play well in a moysian... on a bad day, they win the opening lead and attack trumps, successfully... whereas the 5-2 heart fit at least assures us of avoiding disaster.

No, I am normal, I voted 2 as well. My psychiatrist would agree with Josh.

Hmmmmm....I have met a number of real-life professionals who play bridge... but few medical doctors and no psychiatrists... I suspect they deal with enough abnormal personalities in their day job :P So I don't pay any attention to your psychiatrist's bridge opinion!

As for what to bid... my wtp was partly in jest... but I would bid 2, while recognizing that I will be in an inferior spot when partner is 4=5 in the majors and a good spot when he is 3=5, and a wonderful spot (by comparison) when he is 3=6 or, dare we whisper it: a chunky 2=5=2=4... is it written that he cannot reopen with a double with, say, AQ KQxxx xx AQxx? Is he required to defend 2 on this? Or to reopen with 3?

I used to play at the staff club at a hospital. There were surprisingly few physicians, I think only one. Someone had a theory that they kept away because it would damage their ego to lose to the nurses.

To be fair, Violetta Gugelheim (whom some of you may know) is a physician, and she left the club because the level was too low.

This depends on how frequently opener is expected to reopen.

If the answer to this question is very frequently then 2 is clearly best as there is no presumption of a spade fit.

If on the other hand double is more classical in terms of expected distributions then 2 is far more reasonable.
