I still would open 1C with 5-4 in the minors, but at leastin this case I can understand, that this is not a wtp. The suit quality should at best be responsible that you supress one card, not 2. Even though most of my points are in ♦, I won't mind not to be able to show a four cards minor. 1♣ then 2♣ after 1M or 1NT from pard. Easy opening, easy rebid. Opponent didn't open in front of me so the chances it is our hand are better and I don't have to consider lead directors; shape matters in constructive auctions.
