Fil
Hi,I am having the following problem: The chat log file is no longer working. Settings under Chat Tab: Ignore chat from lobby [cheched], from enemies [checked], to kibitzers [unchecked], ignore all chat [unchecked]. Also log chat messages is checked. The problem is that the chat log file (e.g fil_chat) has stopped recording since April. Previous recordings are in the file. No changes in the settings made before or after that period. I tried to move the file to another location (as a yellow suggested) as the software would create a new one, but nothing happened (no new chat file was created). I also tried to delete all chat [option in Chat Tab] but didn't work too. The actual chat log file size is 2.558 K and running Vista (is it relevant?). Any suggestions? Rain
What's your actual BBO name fil? My first thought is you're looking at the wrong file somehow and you've switched names.
csdenmark
Mine is working perfect - I am also running Vista. I have a checkmark for 'logging all chat' - maybe thats you are missing. The rest I have same settings as you.
fred
A quick web search suggests that Vista prevents some programs from saving files in various locations on user's hard disk. It also seems to be the case that different users on the same computer might experience different behavior in this area. For example, the "administrator" has more rights and abilities than normal users. Apparently all of this is done for "security purposes". As far as I can tell, there are various ways to get around these restrictions, but this is complicated stuff that I don't really understand so I am not exactly eager to recommend a "solution" that involves reconfiguring Vista. Perhaps someone reading this understands what this is all about and can post some more information. Sorry I am not in a position to really help at this point. If I learn more I will make another post. Fred GitelmanBridge Base Inc.www.bridgebase.com
hotShot
Fred is right, you probably don't have the right to write to the BBO directory.
fred
Fil, If you are reading this, I would be interested in knowing if other files that BBO tries to create on your hard disk are being created. In particular I am wondering about the log files that are created every time you play. These files are stored in a directory called: c:\Bridge Base Online\hands\Fil (assuming that Fil is your BBO user ID and that you installed the BBO software into the default location). If you are not sure how to examine the contents of a directory, you can try to use the "Open Bridge Movie on Your Computer" button that appears in BBO itself BEFORE you log in. This will allow you to examine the log files that BBO has created. These files are named according to the date. Do you see any recent files? The answer to this question will hopefully help me get to the bottom of this. Fred GitelmanBridge Base Inc.www.bridgebase.com
Fil
I found the directory you mentioned c:\Bridge Base Online\hands\Fil. There is a sub folder with my user name and inside there are lots of bridge movies. The strange is that the most recent date of the files is 20/4/2009. It has the same date with the log file. Something (or better, me?) somehow managed to stop the recording since that day. Yes, I have played in bbo since then. Well, the problem seems that has to do with security. I tried to modify an unrelevant file that drop in there, and guess what? No permission granted...
