Mixed raise of 1C

Recommended Posts

What kind of mixed raise do you play?

Playing a weak 1NT, I suppose you could play 3 as 9-10 and it would only require 4-card support (or maybe even 3-card support) as partner will bid 3NT with a 15+ balanced.

Playing strong NT I would like 6-card support for 3, no matter what strength it shows. Can do with 5 in competition if there is no better alternative.

Whatever you think the answer is, the fact that 1 was 2+ is irrelavant, assuming you mean that you only open 1 on 4-4-3-2 exactly.

IMO that answer is about 7-9 hcp and normally five clubs.

now the next step is to open 1 diamond on 4 4 3 2 exactly, and make this whole "2+" premise irrelevant.

mixed raise of a minor???

Ok....not in my systems.....

edit: I mean really is this why you lose?

1. How do you bid over your partner's 1 opening holding:

a. Axx Kx xx AQTxxx

b. xxx Qx xx AQTxxx

c. xxx xx xx KJTxxx

2. Was your edit really necessary? Maybe you can list all of the great tournaments you have won?

over 1c:

2d=game force raise

2s-limit raise

2c=weak no shape

3c=weak more shape

what is the problem?

note no mixed raise....

do you really lose because you have no mixed raise....plse list what wc events you lose no mixed raise.

So over a 1 opening you have 4 ways to raise clubs. I think many pairs have only 2 ways to raise clubs (2 and 3). So given you have 4 ways to raise clubs, I can imagine not needing a "mixed raise". However, I also bet what others might consider to be a mixed raise fits nicely into one of your categories.

For what it's worth, I would categorize raises as:

Weak/Preemptive

Mixed

Limit/Invitational

Strong/Game Forcing

I normally play 3 raises of a minor, by combining the Limit/GF raises into an inverted minor structure played as Limit+.

As per "needing" a mixed raise to win, I think you obviously "need" a way to show the hand, as you aren't passing it. My guess is for you that you will either show a mixed raise hand as a weak hand or a limit raise, depending on whether you upgrade it.

As per the tournaments won, it is a silly little debate. Suppose you ask a question on bbo "what should this bid look like?" and someone replies "you don't need that bid. Is that why you lose?" How would you react?

It is beyond silly, and heck of a troll post.
