[hv=d=n&v=b&s=skt87643h7542dt9c]133|100|Scoring: IMP

- 2 p 2

p 3 p 3

p 3NT p ?[/hv]

I see trouble ahead - when I post here you know something interesting happened at the table.

So the 2 followed by 3 by my partner means that we can not stop short of game pretty standard so far. I follow showing my long spades and partner bids 3NT. This is not forcing as we are at the game level and it shows at least a partial stopper in both hearts and diamonds.

Should I bid 4 - my feeling is that my hand is useless unless spades are trumps but your input is appreciated.

I will follow up with further table play later in this post - that is if anyone post any responses.

I would bid 4. Partner has no way of knowing that you have 7 spades, and it is unlikely that he has a void in spades.

Your hand is virtually worthless in a notrump contract. It would be very unlucky (but by no means impossible) if it turned out that 4 didn't make but 3NT does.

Partner could have 9 running tricks and be short in spades, but, more often, he has a semi-balanced hand with long clubs.

By the way, nothing prevents partner from correcting back to 4NT if he really has no spades and 9 or 10 tricks in hand. It would be REALLY unlucky to find that he has exactly 9 tricks.

I agree with your fine explanation and also bid 4
