Blood?

If the style of the various people at the table matter, partner opens most 11 counts, and RHO has twice made lead-directing overcalls on 3 card suits against you in the past month (though with different partners), and frequently only has 4 for his bid.

Do you just ignore the overcall and bid 2 clubs, or do you pass intending to pass a reopening X? If you are thinking about passing, also let me know what you would lead in 1X.

this may end up terribly wrong after the obvious 2 call, but I can never defend 1 doubled anyway... if partner has a hand on which we can beat 1, be probably can't reopen with a double anyway...his hearts are too long.

So my choices really appear to be: pass and see what happens... knowing that I cannot sit for a double and that I cannot catch up if he makes some other call... or 2 and hope to have an easy rebid, while expecting to have a horrific choice.... let's see a poll for what to do after a 2 bid by partner! Now that would be an interesting poll (I suspect that most experts would fudge via 2... which would invite yet another poll on the next round).

It would not surprise me to learn that the best practical result would be 1 undoubled, to which I would lead the club A

Despite all of the potential problems mentioned above, 2 is clear.

Bid your cards, don't let the opponent's peculiar proclivities cause you to do something peculiar. Odds are that your opponent has a normal 1 overcall. There is little about your hand to suggest that 1x will be the best spot for your side.

Despite the other factors (RHO being random) that does not sway me to trap pass. Our trumps are soo bad. East could just have a normal 1 overcall. I'd bid 2.

I feel it warrants mentioning that 2 gives you all sorts of rebid problems on the next round or two of the auction. But since you could make a million tricks in clubs you shouldn't pass now.

Can't you just bid 2 over the likely 2 rebid? I doubt partner will raise on 3.

Are you happy if he raises on 4?

As happy as one can be with any contract on this hand.
