barmar
Any plans to add Robot Duplicate tourneys that are scored as IMP Pairs instead of Matchpoints?
uday
It would be easy to add them. Anyone else want to try some? I thought MatchPoints would be more pure for duplicate purposes ( every time we kib the Cavendish, we hear a respected name or two talk about how random IMP Pairs is, etc ) U
mtvesuvius
The other thing that might be nice would be to make a $1 Duplicate MPs Robot tournament... Basically the same award scheme as the Robot Rewards, with the scoring of the duplicate tournaments... I'd bet that would be really popular. TylerE
I think MP is probably better for 2 reasons - 1. Increased variance - imp pairs can be VERY flat if you get a set of boards that go 4M...4M...3N....4M, etc, which isn't that unusual in a best hand format. Rewarding the declarers who earn the overtricks seems worthwhile. 2. Limits the damage - If the robot totally loses it's mind (Which it still does once in a while), your liability is limited to a single bottom, which isn't totally fatal to your chances, where a 20 IMP swing basically consigns you to last. Another interesting idea might be IMPing (Or Board-a-Matching) against a par score determined by doing something like: Have 5 sets of gibs play the board, throw out the top and bottom scores, then average the remaining 3. (Might not be much worse to have it play 3 times, and just take the median)

helene_t
I prefer MP.
barmar
I prefer MP. I'm not suggesting getting rid of MP, just adding IMPs. I also like the suggestion of IMPing against a table of GIBs.
pdmunro
Robot Duplicate MP has become my prefered option of all the Robot Races. It has a lot of the feel of a club night. I prefer the more thoughtful pace, plus I can look at the My Hands (Tournaments) and see what others did with the same cards. I really like it. However, I would prefer it was 30 mins. Usually there is 1 board in the 8 that requires a bit more thought. At present, I fail to finish about 1 in 4 of the RDMP's. Perhaps you could look at how many people are failing to fininish the 8 boards and see whether it is apparent that a bit more time is needed. mtvesuvius
I usually finish with 15 minutes to go :)
pdmunro
I usually finish with 15 minutes to go :) 10 mins for 8 hands! It takes me that long to sort my cards. :-) I think RDMP's will become popular enough to have one starting every 10 mins, or so. This should cater for the speedsters. MikeRJ
I too am enjoying the new Robot MP tournaments (like pdmunro I like to be able to see what other tables have done). My preference would be a little faster, perhaps 10 hands in 25 mins or 12 in 30. Mike
bb79
I also finish quite early, I would prefer more boards if possible (12?).

It would be nice but rewards may induce two players collaborate during the tournament.
barmar
I'd also like more boards. I usually finish with about 10 minutes to go, although once I got down to 4 minutes. And this would address the point someone made about IMPs being too random with short matches.
pdmunro
I also finish quite early, I would prefer more boards if possible (12?).Wouldn't it solve your problems if there was a new 8-board 30-min game starting every 10 mins or so? Note that, you wouldn't lose track of what happened in your prior games: you can easily check all details by looking at "my hands" and "my points"http://online.bridgebase.com/myhands/index.phphttp://online.bridgebase.com/points/index.php I guess you probably know this. I knew about "my hands", but I didn't know about "my points" till I queried BBO support as to why I seemed to be stuck on a rating of "3". I now better appreciate those ratings: see http://online.bridgebase.com/points/awards.php. Congratulations to all those "6"'s I have run up against! There is a bug that sometimes prevents some of the results from being shown at myhands.
