vuroth
[hv=d=s&v=b&s=sjt9754h8d763ckqt]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Worth a 2♠? Or not quite solid enough? Maybe more importantly, is this really a fair question, or is it less borderline than I thought it was?
TylerE
Depends on style. With some partners this is an automatic open for me R v W, with others it's a pass W v R. Fundamentally, I don't think it matters that much which style you play, just need to be on the same wavelength with your partner. As food for though, consider the auction: 2♠ - (2NT) - p - (3NT) - ap. Do you expect your partner to lead YOUR suit, or would you prefer to try to setup HIS suit. I'm not suggesting there's a right answer, but again, just discuss it and figure out which style you prefer.
Mbodell
I would open this 2♠ in any (non-4th) seat at any colors.
Codo
It is a style issue. The old school tells you that you need to have your honours in your suit. Not many defensive values. But I guess even for them, your hand is a possible weak two.Make the spades J97543 and it is not. To open weak two on any excuse with a six (five) card suit is a newer idea. And for the players who like this approach, this is a madatory weak two- in fact for them this is quite a strong one. Despite belonging to the old school, I would open this hand 2 Spade. Jlall
I would open 2S and I consider myself generally conservative with preempts that aren't w/r
jdonn
I would pass vul, would bid 2♠ in a flash non-vul.
mtvesuvius
Yep. 2♠.
andy_h
I would pass at 2nd seat red, and all r/w. Otherwise 2S.
Gerben42
Pass, I'm getting old.
Codo
Gerben?? Pass?? This hand?? Please call a doctor. Or blame it on too much Fantunes where your must pass this hand without much thinking.
kfay
No opinion but I'd personally open 2♠. Short heart pushes me over the edge.
Lobowolf
I'd pass it red. I wouldn't mind too much if partner opened it, as long as he didn't mind when I led something else next time, when he's got KQTxxx.
P_Marlowe
No, at least not in 1st or 2nd position. In the end a matter of style and partnership agreement, but I would need to be hard pressed to agree to play such a agreement. And we play a hyper agressive preempt opening style. With kind regardsMarlowe
whereagles
Depends on style. With some partners this is an automatic open for me R v W, with others it's a pass W v R. Fundamentally, I don't think it matters that much which style you play, just need to be on the same wavelength with your partner. Yes this is the most important. Unfortunately, people agree to "weak 2" and not to its style. I'm ok both opening or not, depending on pard's preferences.
hanp
I agree with Kevin, I don't have an opinion but I would surely open 2S.
matmat
I agree with Kevin, I don't have an opinion but I would surely open 2S. I just don't have an opinion. I never get a hand like this, so it is not a problem ;)

655321
I would always open 2♠ because in my opinion bidding with this hand is better than passing.
y66
2S for me. Agree with Tyler, Whereagles & others that partnership style is the key to deciding what to do here.
Phil
My style isn't to open this vulnerable, but I don't mind it NV.
zasanya
I would advise all beginners to pass this one in 1st and 2nd and open it in 3rd and 4th at favourable vul or equal vul.
vuroth
Thanks. I opted not to bid the weak 2, but I thought it was close. When you first learn weak 2s, you seem to bid them on any holding. I feel like I'm starting to question certain holdings. I thought this one was close. Certainly, if the spades had been J65432, I thought pass would be clear. Again, thanks. V
