I assume it's a matter of style, but the way I play 3 this is a clear pass.

For me, when playing 3 as preemptive, it is weak even at this vul. The absolute best PD will have is a very junky 4 card minimal raise to 2 if playing "standard". If PD has even as much 6 HCP, they will be scattered quacks or there will be some defect like a stiff K or q. Since PD usually has less, I doubt game is close to favorite.

I'll pass.

I pass and think it's clear, opposite my idea of a preemptive raise even at this vul. I don't understand some comments at all, for example how is a hand with just QJxx of spades a good game, or even a game with play?

Pass... I wouldn't be surprised to make 10 tricks, especially if he tracks xx in hearts and my lead to the K holds, but I would expect to go down at least 75% of the time.... with one partner, make it more like 85%.

oops.... miscounted my losers :) lol

Yeah I pass. Opposite any of my partners the only way we're making game is if they have a stiff , which is like not possible.

Then again... I'm tempted to raise to game because now the more I think about it.... wtf?!?! Aren't the opps cold for 5?!

Maybe that's the theme of this thread. But that's too deep for me.... hey they might let me acutally play 3

We are r/w. When I bid a confident 4 Spade, they may defend with 4 NT, finding 5 club, making. Too depressive, so I better pass. (And 4 spade is failing most of the time anyway)

I understand the comments so far, based on the agreements.

However, I don't understand an agreement where 3 can be bid red-on-white where 4 is not the right call, either making or blocking.

What, partner has insufficient values to justify bidding on with this hand AND has defense to boot? That's a sick style, IMO. We just go for 200 or 300 without even a double when I have a boring 5332 11-count too often, against air.

But, whatever.
