I will say I offer an explanation of my partnership's 2♣ bid (explain that it's relatively likely to be a short suit) after the auction. I didn't used to and an expert from another country got upset at the table about it, so I started doing it. I prefer not to make a mountain out of a molehill. I think it's actually more practical to agree 2♣ could be a doubleton, because then I can just alert it and explain "clubs or a balanced hand", which people understand better than "3+ clubs with these shapes and 2 clubs with these shapes".
