655321 Posted June 9, 2009 Report Share Posted June 9, 2009 5♦. Usually I prefer to double (not takeout!) with these hands, and double is right whenever nobody makes anything at the five level. But here it seems that 5♦ will often make (partner has 0-1 clubs and hopefully a few diamonds), that even 6♦ will often make opposite just the ♠A and a few diamonds (although we won't always bid it), and, on a bad day, they might even make 5♣X (someone is void in diamonds). If RHO bid 5C to make at red, it's likely that he'll have short diamonds so partner should have some length in diamonds (since RHO might have bid 3NT with more diamonds). There's even a chance that we can make 5D if RHO had bid 5C to make (short clubs) and leading spades up towards your hand against RHO's stronger hand. Agreed... this is easy, I think.
