gwnn
opps are playing fantunes and you thought you'd limp in. They are having none of it. fav. mp's xAJ9xxQJxxxxx 2♣-p-2♦-2♥X-p-p-??? 2♦ was artificial and invitational "to game or slam"X was swift and penalty. ArtK78
The nice thing about matchpoints is that you cannot get worse than a zero. It seems that you are heading for a zero if you stay put in 2♥. So you might as well run to 3♦.

mtvesuvius
3♦... Why? Because I like big positive scores.

jdonn
Sorry for my blatant ignorance. What is 2♣ in fantunes?
Free
Sorry for my blatant ignorance. What is 2♣ in fantunes? 10-13HCP, 5+♣, unbalanced (may even be 6♣-5M), not 5422
Cascade
I think you are not without hope for five tricks and that they can make a game. The 2♣ opener is unlikely to have five hearts so there is a chance that partner will give you some hearts and something else useful. If not then they might have a slam and you only need a couple of tricks. It may depend on the opponents but certainly some opponents frequently misjudge in this sort of situation. whereagles
3♦. I can go 1 more down in 3♥, but at least I know I'll be playing the right strain.
kenrexford
3♦. I can go 1 more down in 3♥, but at least I know I'll be playing the right strain. You will know that if partner passes. If he looks at you like you are an idiot and converts back to 3♥, I suppose you will also know that you are in the right strain then.
NickRW
3♦. I can go 1 more down in 3♥, but at least I know I'll be playing the right strain. Well, yeah, but how do you know you aren't already in the right strain - if XX would be SOS then we probably are already in the right spot. I think I tend to side with Ken - Lead! whereagles
If he looks at you like you are an idiot and converts back to 3♥, I suppose you will also know that you are in the right strain then. I'd worry about that only if pard is a beautiful lady whom I'm particularly interested in, in which case I'll make up some excuse to mess up things at table, so that I can take a peek at LHOs cards... lol. Under more normal circumstances I'd say one could as well look like an idiot if pard shows up with 4+ diamonds :)
gwnn
(...)if pard shows up with 4+ diamonds  xxxKxAKxxxxxx :) well 2♥ also makes (but only because I have the ♣T) but 3♦x was +1 and it was a little funny to catch this dummy:)
