There is a little bug in the bidding table. Here is the situation I encountered. Other players are robots. Normally you can press undo and take back your previous bids. Say, you bid 5 rounds and want to change your very first bid. If you click undo multiple times repeatedly to get back to your first bid (impatiently, e.g. 4 clicks in a second), the bidding choices in the bottom right corner disappears and you can't bid anymore with the current deal, you need to redeal... If you wait for the confirmation "undo accepted" after each undo click, there isn't a problem.

I previously mentioned a problem with pasting a description of the tourney I was creating, and thought at the time that the format was acting funny. There would either be double spaced descriptions that would then not fit in the box, or the description in the Windows version would not have the line feeds as expected. I ihad thought it may be due to the use of Wordpad instead of notepad, and perhaps due to the font used or something embedding and hidden in the text file. I no longer think this is the case.

Now, I have noticed that I only see the problem when I make use of the ampersand character "&" when listing TD names in the description. This seems to be the case even when using the Windows version alone, not specifically with the Web Client.

Also, would you prefer that TD related comments and questions be made here or in a separate place from the general comments, as I had started to before?

This is a fine place to mention anything to do w/the web version of BBO, including TD-related glitches.

I thought we'd fixed the dbl-spaced descriptions as of 2 days ago, when we released a new version.

How might I replicate the glitch? Make a T, use ampersands in the description ?

Team matches:

Lets say you want to spec a team match.

Login -> Show all tables -> Team Matches -> Watch a team match

lets say you want to start a team match. You will need to know the names of the 8 participants.

Login -> Show all tables -> Team Matches -> Start a new team match

A window will pop up. Fill in the 8 player names ( and fiddle with the options if you like ). Click the CREATE TEAM MATCH button. Each player will see a little 'Do you accept the invite?" message. When all of them click YES , the team match is ready to go and will start in a few seconds.

"save hands to disk"

You can't ( yet ) save hands to your local PC. However, you can do this for now, while we decide what the best long-term answer is.

note: some hands are automatically saved to our website. Main bridge club IMP/MP hands, tourney hands, team games hands - these are all automatically saved, and available via either

www.bridgebase.com ( HAND RECORDS link at the top )

or

Login to bbo -> MY BBO -> Hands and results

Use the web pages for hands played by others.

In addition, you can save individual hands in your personal folders ( not on your pc, but on our side ).

Lets say you're kibbing some table. On the right is a list of results. click on any to see the full hand on lower right. Down to the lower right, you'll see an OPTIONS button (if you dont, drag the right-hand-side so it is wider, drag up the "mini movie" on lower right so it is taller ). From the OPTIONS button you can EXPORT the deal in a few ways.

--> Handviewer Link . Gives you a URL you can copy/paste/mail

--> Send to member. Send the hand to another member of BBO via BBO-mail.

--> Save deal as.. lets you save the deal in your 'favourite hands' folder (everyone has one) or in another folder that you create/select

About hand editor and and teaching tables

I tried this an succeeded. Some remarks:

In the hand Editor, I twice lost the first hand that I produced, because I clicked on "Back" or "Close". There was no warning. The problem was that there was no obvious "Save" button. I finally found it under "Options", but it is only visible there when the complete deal is there, and I had checked the options before and therefore "knew" that the save button was not there.

I would prefer the suits in the middle to be in the normal order, and not Clubs above Diamonds. I did not manage to use the keyboard for inputting cards as it was possible in the windows client, which is usually faster than clicking.

I got the impression that once one has selected the dealer, it is not possible to change this if it was a misclick. The board numbers can be selected only from 1 to 16, so I have a problem if you want to correctly label a board 23 that I took from a ftf tourney. I am aware that I can subtract 16 and get a board number with the same properties.

When selecting boards for a teaching table, they can only be processed in the order in which they were stored.

After a board has been played, "Redeal" invokes the next board of the set, and there is no way to reload the current board like in the Windows client. I did heavily use this when teaching, and it is the feature I miss most. When this will be implemented, maybe provide 2 buttons: "Reset to start" and "Reset to start of play", keeping the auction.

A further improvement would be to provide the teacher with a switch that controls if the players can see only their own cards or all cards. In the windows client, this could be achieved by having the players stand up from their seats and then reload the board. However, this causes the hand to rotate for all but South.

Sorry if some of this was mentioned before, but I did not read all of the previous threads.

Yes, the ampersands seemed to be the culprit, but were causing it in the Windows version too. The double spacing was in the displayed description, but when looking at the text entered to create it, the lines seemed to be run together and I could not delete the extra line (which didn't seem to be there), nor could I add an extra one. The problem went away when I stopped using the ampersands to list the TD's.

I have not tried it in the Web client since, but shall. I will let you know after I set up another few each way.

Thank you for looking at it. I noticed it in other people's descriptions, for a while, but they seem to have noticed it themselves, and have changed it too.

Sorry about the confusion. I will include a warning in the next version.

I would prefer the suits in the middle to be in the normal order, and not Clubs above Diamonds. I did not manage to use the keyboard for inputting cards as it was possible in the windows client, which is usually faster than clicking.

Anything keyboard-related is tricky when a program runs inside a web-browser (because web-browsers have a tendency to take over certain keystrokes and to exercise control of where other keystrokes will be directed).

If you try typing in cards and nothing happens, click the type bar of the little window where the undealt cards are displayed. Then try typing again. Make sure to specify the suit (S for spades, H for hearts...) before you specify the rank of the card. Once you specify a suit you can just keep typing rank-characters until you are done with that suit.

You can change the dealer by clicking on the seat in question as long as the bidding has not started yet. If you have started the bidding you will have to back up to the beginning of the bidding in order to change the dealer. You can change the vulnerability by clicking on the vulnerability diagram.

The interaction between board numbers, dealer, and vulnerability has been a big can of worms since the earliest days of the Windows client. I am not going to get into a discussion as to why this is the case, but we really can't do anything about this now (or probably ever).

When selecting boards for a teaching table, they can only be processed in the order in which they were stored.

When you are the host of a teaching table, click My BBO, then Hands and Results. Select the folder you are interested in and then select the deal you want to upload. Then click the Options button below that deal, followed by Export deal, and Upload deal to table.

Subsequent clicks of the Redeal button will NOT continue from the next deal after the one you selected - if you want to upload deals that are "out of order" you will have to do it this way for each deal.

Once a deal has been played its movie will appear on the right side of your screen. Again click Options (below the deal at the bottom right), Export deal, and Upload deal to table. That will allow you to replay the deal in question.

A further improvement would be to provide the teacher with a switch that controls if the players can see only their own cards or all cards. In the windows client, this could be achieved by having the players stand up from their seats and then reload the board. However, this causes the hand to rotate for all but South.

A nice idea, but I suggest you don't hold your breath waiting for it (sorry).

Let me know if you have any further questions or suggestions.

I was not able to replicate this problem, but I think I understand why it might happen in some circumstances.

There will be another version coming out before too long (likely within a few weeks). When that happens we will announce it in Forums. If you notice that announcement and don't mind trying to force the bug to happen again and letting me know if the problem still exists, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Fred, When I kibitz, I prefer to kibitz only one player. As BBO web-client doesn't have this functionality (as far as I can determine), I prefer to use the BBO desktop version.

I will add this option in the next version.

The split screen concept is nice for TDs and I like the way that the screen can be resized to allocate more real eastate to one side or the other.

The columns on the right side (the Director side) can be nicely resized, but it appears that the columin sizes on the left side (Table view side) are fixed, so that if the size of the left side of the screen is reduced, all columns are reduced proportionately. Can the columns on the Table View side also be made to be adjustable?

Hi Don,

Which columns on the left are you referring to?

Those in a list of tables?

Those in a list of tournaments?

Something else?

Once I understand what you mean, there is a good chance I get improve things for the next version (hopefully coming soon...).

The list of tables after bringing up a tournament. Column titles of N, S, E, W, Kibitzers, More and Description. Would usually choose to allocate all the available real estate to the NSEW columns.

Thanks.

Thanks for clarifying, Don.

I should be able to fix this, but it would be helpful for me if you could e-mail me a screenshot of a table list in which the columns are a mess for you. My e-mail address is fred@bridgebase.com.

Thanks,
