Partner expects you to often open light, should you so choose. At V/V, what's your call?

If you open 1 and the auction gets competitive, do you generally plan on introducing your diamonds or do you treat this as a 1-suiter? For example:

1-(2)-2-(P)

?

Hi,

4S.

I would open 4S, I dont consider this a 1S opener, but assuming I did,

I guess I have to bid 1S.

In the given auction, the only issue is, if 3D showes add. values, if not,

than the bid is fine, because I guess this was my plan, as I opened 1S.

And if this was my plan, I would see it through.

Partner bidding hearts did not help, opponents bidding clubs did not hurt.

After I opened 1S, if I bid 4S now, I could have opened directly 4S,

because, what would I have done, if there was no comp. and if partner

responded 2H? Would I have bid 2S? followed by 3/4S? over 3H? or

would I have shown my side suit?

With kind regards

Marlowe

I would open 4, but it is not hard to imagine a hand that partner might hold where 5 would be a superior spot. Axxxx of diamonds and a singleton spade.

We miss out on a better spot in diamonds occasionally.

They miss out on a dialogue and hence a heart or club game or slam hopefully more often.

We miss out on problems like what to do after partner's 2 in you auction. Basically if we open 1 this hand will not fit nicely into any rebid later.
