pass 1

1 NT 3

3 NT ap

If you decide to open the south hand as a balanced hand, the bidding would be as in Waynes second example.

We play a 2/1 system.

Pass - 1S

1NT (1) - 3C (2)

4C (3) - 4D (4)

4H (5) - 4NT (6)

5C (7) - Pass ((8) Edited, was 6C)

(1) 100% forcing, could be 4-7 with spade fit

(2) gf, 5-4

(3) natural, slam interest, we have a fit, partner wants to play

game vs. 4-7 with spade support, I have enough to make a

move toward slam, playing IMPs this is fairly easy, playing

MP, I still would bid 4C

(4) cue, showing either the king of the Ace

(5) cue 1st or 2nd round control, could be shortage or Kx

(6) RKCB

(7) 0 or 3

With kind regards

Marlowe

PS: (8) Since the opener knowes, he is missing two KC, he will pass,

since slam is at bets 50%.

Pass* - 1

2** - 3NT***

Pass

* In principle one could open 2, 9 - 12, but we don't do that on minimum 3-suiters

** Transfer to

*** No slam opposite a passed hand without a good fit

6NT needs a lead to beat it. Not that you ever want to be in it...

P - 1

1NT - 2!

2! - 3

3NT - P

2 = Gazzilli (16+ any or <16HCP natural)

2 = 8+ any

3 denies 3

Alternative:

P - 1

2 - 2NT!

3! - 3!

3NT - 4

4NT - P

2NT = 16+ no shortness

3 = relay

3 = 5, 4m, 2-2

Responder shouldn't get excited imo. However, opener still has extra's to show. He can bid 4 or 4NT, but imo responder should still try to signoff in NT.

uh?, even if hearts broke, you happen to have no entry to dummy, you will need spades 4-4 as well. You can also set clubs 4-1 to make it cold :P

There are many ways I could start this hand.

2NT-3

3 (5-2)-3NT is one of them.

Thank you all for inputs-seems general 3n/t is optimum and 5 clubs an aside issue

I was interested in the primary "duty" of the passed hand when pard opens 1 spade

should it be ----1n/t or bid 2 hts our auction turned out very uncomfortable for both of us with the help of the opponents which backfired on them.comments thoughts at the side of auction

AUCTION N----- E -----S-----W

p p 1s p

1n/t! p 2cl p A & B a=Duty b=obliged

3n/t! p 4cl p C & D c=to play d=dont like 3n/t

5cl! p 5n/t p E & F e=OK u r 5/5/void f=Sign off?

6cl! p p X G & H g=is pard ace asking?whats going on 0 aces Double comes up ????? ( a wheel has fallen off)

P! p 6sp X I & J I =resisted 6 n/t feeling very uncomfortable

J= pard also uncomfortable went back to 6 spades---this was now x---Pass by me pard must be 6/6/1 and a void :P)))

opps hands WEST THE DOUBLER 7532--A108--954--K96

East 10986-742 --J763-Q7

opening lead 2 sp after the dust settled my pard went to work after 2 rounds sp plyd the j hts ducked another ht Game set and match up went the ace

My partners comment post mortem was he could not use gerber after 5cl so 5 n/t was a sign off???? you ncan see why i bid 6 clubs to the rescue unknown came west pard liked his spade suit and fled to 6 spades:))

we were the only one in 6 spades 1 pair in 6 n/t rest in 3n/t-4sp+2 and 4 hts+2

others in part scores and someone went off in 5 spades--Duty and disciplined bidding applies 3n/t is best contract regards put ones "rose" petal glasses away:)
