gwnn
What's your absolute minimum in terms of HCP where you'd bid 1♠ over 1♥ at imps (edit: RHO opens 1♥, you bid 1♠)? if you want, you can specify any vulnerability you like (but not any state of match). Double !
Csaba: do you mean as responder (advancer) or as an overcall? DHL

Mbodell
I'd overcall 1♠ in second seat with AQTxxx x Kxx xxx which is only 9 HCP.
hanp
I would overcall white against red in third seat with KQ109x and out, and that's generous.
Cascade
We play intermediate jumps so we overcall some trash at the one-level. The lightest I have seen in our partnership is ♠ KJxxxxx and out vulnerable

CSGibson
Depends if partner's a passed hand. I'm more liberal with my overcalls in that situation (AQxxxx & out would be ok with a passed p, with an unpassed I probably either pass or bid 2 spades, needing a side Q or K to bid comfortably @ the 1 level)
hanp
I said it was generous as in, I gave myself more than I needed.
jdonn
I can't lie. Clee has seen me overcall 1♠ vul on JTxxxx xxx x xxx or something like that. But we won imps on the deal!
rogerclee
I can't lie. Clee has seen me overcall 1♠ vul on JTxxxx xxx x xxx or something like that. But we won imps on the deal! I thought it was a push, 2♠x-1 into our teammates' 2N+3. You had the queen of spades, but that's it.
hanp
Oh wow, I now notice that he was vul.

Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway that's definitely the lightest I have ever overcalled vul, nv I shudder to think there may be no lower limit with the right shape vs the right opponents in the right situation. whereagles
The absolute min is hard to quantify. It probably depends more on opponents' faces than on technical issues :)
NickRW
Hard to quantify without giving detail you probably don't want, but to give an example, at white v red, with a 5422 shape, I'd overcall with the HCP+controls = 9 provided the suit was decent enough for me to think it would be a reasonable lead. You should note that I play 2 level jumps as intermediate though - so we probably overcall more crappyish hands than some folks at the 1 level. P_Marlowe
What's your absolute minimum in terms of HCP where you'd bid 1♠ over 1♥ at imps (edit: RHO opens 1♥, you bid 1♠)? if you want, you can specify any vulnerability you like (but not any state of match). I cant answer, I see the hand, and I know, if I am going to make the overcall. But most likely the question can be reformulated:According to which criterias, you decide to make a simple overcall instead of a (weak) jump overcall. In my partnership, we have a fairly tight set of req. on preemptiveovercalls, if we face a partner, who did not have the chance to speak,if he had the cance and did not use it, I can basically do, what I like. => So facing a unpassed partner, I may not be able to make a jumpovercall, if I dont want to pass, I have to make a simple overcall. Additionnally I prefer a certain suit quality, and this implies somethinglike QTxxx or better. So all in all: The min. gets influenced by the position I am in, the vulnerability, the quality of the opponents and (the state of the match). With kind regardsMarlowe
gnasher
I said it was generous as in, I gave myself more than I needed. I thought you meant you were being generous to your opponents by giving them all that space at the two level.
