1eyedjack
Various hands that I play or kibitz while using the Windows client are saved in a dedicated folder in .LIN format, which appear to be ascii text files that the lin movie program interprets. So far so good. I have hundreds of files in this folder and I wish to search for those files that contain hands featuring a specific player. The player's name is clearly identifiable as an ascii text string within the relevant files, if I open the .LIN file using Notepad.exe. Trouble is, using Windows Explorer (within Windows Vista Home Premium) I cannot work out how to search the folder for file contents that meet those criteria. Under "Search Tools/Search Options" I have already ticked the radio button "always search file names and contents (might be slow)", but then when I enter the player's name in the search field it says no hits found. But I know that there are hits there to be found. Can it be that explorer only searches the contents of files that it expects to be in ascii format (such as .txt files) and simply glosses over .LIN extensions on the grounds that it does not expect to be able to find any matching contents, without checking? Maybe there is an easier approach altogether?
bb79
Probably this is not the easiest solution, but here is an example you might find useful. Press windows+r (run) and type "cmd" to start the command line prompt and type findstr /m /I "jec" "C:\Bridge Base Online\hands\bb79\*.lin" (replace bb79 with your username) this searches the lin files in your hands folder and lists the stored files of the team matches that "jec" (Jimmy Cayne) played/I option make this search case insensitive Burak
