the hog
Dislike 2C and dislike south's general approach to the hand. Agree with this. 2C is a bad bid.
JLOL
bad? dislike? That doesn't even begin to describe 2C. LOL is not even strong enough to describe how terrible 2C is.
jdonn
Disagree with JLOL, I think LOL is a perfect description of 2♣. But I think south did even worse.
ArtK78
North - ugh! 2♣ is an abomination. South - a little more sympathy up through 5♣. Before South bid 3♦, he should have considered what he would do over 3♥. And then he should have considered what he would do over 4♥. Bidding 4♣ and then 5♣ makes no sense. If he was going to do that, it would have been better to bid 5♣ the first time. The only thing I can say in support of South's actions is that he may have thought that he was "walking the dog" and that 5♣ was going to make. The 3♦ bid pointed North to the right lead over 5♥. helene_t
I don't think South's bidding is so bad, assuming he couldn't trust North to understand a 4♦ fit-showing jump. 2♣ is LOL.
peachy
The 2C overcall dug the grave.
mtvesuvius
2♣ is beyond awful... South was a little agressive, but North gets at least 95% of the blame for the 2♣ bid.
mcphee
Hmm lets see, I hold this tremendous hand in support of a vul 2 level o/c, I fully intend to reach game. I think S may have wanted to get dbled, I sure would. As for the hand that o/c 2C, it is not even close.

P_Marlowe
Hi, I can live with the auction until 4C, I dont like 5C.3D and 4C were meant to involve partner, he decidednot to move, and South should respect this decision. With kind regardsMarlowe

hanp
I think 3D is NF by the way, do people agree? If so that must be a pretty bad bid.
skjaeran
I think 3D is NF by the way, do people agree? If so that must be a pretty bad bid. Depends on what 2NT is (good-bad).
gnasher
I think 3D is NF by the way, do people agree? If so that must be a pretty bad bid. I think it's non-forcing, but with South's actual hand he can expect to get another bid, so if he isn't going to insist on game, and given the lack of agreements, I think 3♦ is a reasonable solution to his problem. mikeh
I would play 3♦ as a one-round force, but don't feel strongly about it.... obviously there will be hands on which you'd like it one way and some where you;d like it the other... there is an argument that it might be best to play NF at mps and forcing at imps. However, I would prefer 5♣ as South (and an original pass by North... just how much did he value his heart holding? :) )
ninja89
I would interpret 3S in a non-practiced partnership as a splinter, and would probably give it a go in my regular partnerships. However, my partners realise that I chronically overbid slam hands, so would give me some leeway. I would try a direct 5C in the given context, though. This all assumes that partner has a semblance of a 2C overcall.
