benlessard
over a 1M 3rd or 4th seat opening what is the best use of a 2nt response. Does it matter if you play 2 way drury or not ?
Echognome
Best use? Obviously depends on what the rest of your system is. Phil and I choose to play P - 1M; 3m as a fit jump. We also play 2♣ as drury. Therefore, we need a bid for a hand with long clubs and less then opening values and that's what we have assigned to 2NT. I think it should be used as a bid that fits best within the context of your other bids.
dake50
Do all raises go Drury? Jacoby after Drury if needed? Then max pass with stops.
dicklont
I play Drury with 2NT showing 5 cards in openers major and limit values.
rbforster
It sort of depends on what other 3 level bids would be. Hardy suggests 5/5 minors and a max PH for 2N, noting that a balanced max PH should bid 1N(semiforcing) to avoid hanging partner if he opened a little light. If you've got a weak 2♦ available in 1st/2nd and want to handle the equivalent passed club hand, you might consider: P-1♠-? 1N semiforcing, including maximum balanced hands without support (which will bid again unless passed, usually 2N)2♣ natural, 6+ or 5+ and a good suit, ~8-122♦ Drury2♥ 5 cards and a max PH2N 5/5 minors max PH3X fit jump in support of spades3♠ very good passed hand, worth at least opening strength in support of spades
kfay
I play Drury with 2NT showing 5 cards in openers major and limit values. Some people around here play that treatment. They probably play 3♣ as natural. Playing the way Phil and Matt do... 2NT is much better to show clubs I've come to believe.

Here is another one, if your 1NT by a passed hand is still forcing, and if 2/1 by a passed hand is a one-round force, AND if you dont play Drury or Bergen --in other words, old fashioned 2/1. 2NT can be minors but less than Hardy suggested. (with Max, just bid the 2 suits)3C or 3D long and weak, but not broke (pass is available).2H--natural and max pass3S--same limit raise agreement as you have if unpassed.1NT--same hands you could have if unpassed. kenrexford
I also do something sexier with 2NT. P-1♠-? 2NT = minors (max pass) 5-53minor = this plus hearts (max pass) 5-53♥ = spade raise P-1♥-?2♠ = spades plus minor2NT = minors3minor = heart raises
