Rebid problem

Recommended Posts

Pass.

Partner knows that I do not promise a rebid when I bid 3.

My alternative is 3, but given that pard has at least 9 cards in the majors, there is no reason to believe that 3 will play better than 2.

You should get out of this auction now that you have a fit, even if it is only a 4-3 fit. With a singleton spade and aces in the minors, 2 should play well.

Pard LHO you RHO

1 ... 2 .. 2 pass

2 .. pass ??

2 was natural, 1 round force.

Your bid and why?

Great question, I would think that 2h is one round forcing on this auction but not forcing to game....so 2nt now.

Nice spot we got ourselves into. I break the rules and raise H using the old I had a D in with my H, and making a stunned look when pard asks why no neg dble with 5-4?. Pass is risky, you could miss an easy game. Good spot for a conventional 2N that asks what the 2H bid is all about.

I'm not passing. 2 is forcing. How high is a matter of partnership - it should be suit agreement I think.

I'll bid 2 I guess. I don't like it at all, but I like it more than 2N, 3 or 3.

I appreciate the comments about the 2 being forcing. With this hand, I would have bid anyway but it is useful to know the right treatment of 2 as a force.

A random thought -- What if partner has Qx? Is there a "standard" way to make partner the declarer in 3NT?

Thanks

It's an interesting question whether 2 should be forcing or not. I believe it should because responder always has the strength to make another rebid, so no need for opener to waste space with a jump/cue just because he has a good 14 or 15 and fears responder passes.

At table responder passed and opener took 11 tricks. Of course, it would have been a lot easier if opener had started with 1, but I believe game should have been reached anyway.

By the way, having started 1, would you have jumped to 3 over 2? Opener didn't do it because of the diamond void and possible misfit.
