Pulling a double

Ugly hand, I know. You got to play it at the following point:

1 2 3 4

5 Pa Pa 5

X Pa ???

What do you do now? Would partner's pass be forcing? Let's suppose your partner knows you can have this hand from the bidding, does that change your decision? Let's say partner expects a better hand, do you bid differently?

It's a butler tourney, they're vulnerable, you're not.

Partner did not ask for my opinion. He said that 5 was going down. Who am I to overrule him?

3 was a clear misbid imo. 4 preemptive instead, perhaps even 5, if 1 shows 4. As usual it becomes a problem to respect partner's later decisions when one fails to show the nature of the supporting hand.

When you bid 3, you committed yourself to passing now.... never try to correct a mistake in these circumstances... stay fixed, and remember this hand next time you are tempted to make a call such as 3.

Of course, if this hand was within the range of hands partner can expect for 3 (I prefer pass or maybe 4), then this is a wtp pass.

Bear with me here:

I don't think I've ever not regretted pulling partner's double at the 5-level

That was hard to follow. Sort of double negative-ish.

So, you have always been wrong when pulling, right?

:) Correct.

Not like it's happened many times. Definitely could count the number on 1 hand I think, which is how I'm pretty sure my memory is correct.

Anyway yeah I pass here.
