4, pick a game?

Hmm for me that would be a cue, i.e. a very good hand for hearts.

Yes, for me too, except that I'd play it as shortage. I meant that 4 ought be pick-a-game, on the grounds of frequency and usefulness.

Without this useful gadget, I think this is hard. I'd bid 4, because I know that can't be a 5-1 fit, and because if partner has a small singleton spade I'm not giving him much help in 4.

How many hearts does 3H promise?

At least five, but usually six.

What is wrong with bidding 3S?

It's not forcing. That's not necessarily bad, but we do have quite a nice hand.

Thanks!

Apparently, the vulnerability information is missing from the original post. I guess that probably matters...

I bid 4.

As for 4, pick a game, it is a sort of sexy bid, and thus appealing, but I don't think it is the best treatment.... we will rarely have the hand on which we want to express that particuler opinion, and we will often survive without it, whereas, opposite an unlimited hand and the lack of room we have, we HAVE to be able to bid 4 with, for example, AQJxxx Jxx x xxx.... or do we have another gadget that allows for this hand type? It occurs to me, and has long been my view, that opener ought never to be permitted to bid a natural, to play, 3N here... so maybe we can use 3N as a choice of games bid, and keep the 4minor as a cue in support of hearts? Or is this too weird?

Yes I have nice majors, but I hate my minors and I have no idea which major will produce game.

Any gadget for this hand would be nice, but up to now I did not need it at the table.

When I had bid 2 I thought that the shortness is a strength. Now that partner promises good s this strength is gone. Before my can get a source of tricks I might have to lose to K and J. If partner has short spades, he might have problems to reach my hand.

Since partner did not support , he is more likely to be short there and not in the minors. My hand is a nightmare in the minors.

If partner has strong minors, he can bid 3NT over my 3.

I can either bid 3 nonforcing or 4 gameforcing.

I BID GAME!

Was there something that precludes you from bidding the nonforcing/gameforcing 4? I can understand you may not choose to do so, but it seemed odd to me you felt the only choices were 3 and 4.

I like 3N - which, to me, says I have a max, but a singleton or small doubleton in hearts. It's not to play, but partner can leave me there with an appropriate hand, or choose his other possible games in the majors.
