Partner opens 1 you bid 2 and partner rebids 2

My question is how do you rebid these hand types in 2/1.

Is it possible to distinguish between 3 and 4 card support.

What about the quality of your side suit

Thank you for the comments. :P

There will be a billion answers, as everyone does 2/1 differently.

For my part, I would rebid 2 with all four hands. I cannot make a picture bid on any of the first three because (1) my diamonds are too good with the King, and (2) my trump contribution is too weak. I cannot make a picture bid on the fourth because (my clubs aren't good enough and (2) I have a spade control.

What happens next, and how to show what I have in hearts and elsewhere, is complicated, depending on what Opener does.

I would bid 2H on the first three and 4D on the last.

The picture jumps are quite off in my opinion, but maybe this should be discussed to greater detail. For example, after 3H partner could still ask with 3S whether we have shortness.

4 on the last? You did notice pard rebid 2 right?

I would bid 2 on all of them. 3 is a splinter (except with Gnome and it shows a hand like #1).

I've never considered what 4 is over 2 is.

I agree that's what we play. I can easily be convinced that splinter is a better treatment. I currently like 3 as showing hand #1 as I believe it's a good way to absolutely set trumps. I find that auctions that start 1M - 2m; 2Red - 2M are often murky, unless opener bids 3M and then that sets trumps.

Perhaps it's simply that we need more discussion on these auctions!

I agree. The splinter just never seems to come up enough and its such a rare hand type. Even then, we might be able to cope without it.

I'm curious what others think.

I play that 4D is a splinter and 3H is a picture bid. 4C shows (at least) semi solid clubs and starts cuebidding.

Yes but your 2 rebid is artificial isn't it?

1. 4NT. I know all I need, so it's time to make decisions. If all the keys + Q are there, I'll ask for the K by whatever means I have available.

2, 3, 4. These depend on style. Mine is to use 2 as slammish and 3 as non-slammish. I wouldn't shoot at 4 with any of them, as that's more like a picture bid, which I don't have.
