I would probably bid 1N forcing playing in my regular partnership, but I wouldn't have a problem with partner bidding 2 hearts. It doesn't really matter as long as you and partner are on the same page, I think, with borderline hands like this.

Same old same old for me.

2.

Real good chance partner can bid 2. If he bids 2 unexpectedly, great. If he rebids spades, we're where we want to be. If he raises clubs, this may be our best slam anyway, if there is one. If he rebids 2NT, I might wish we were playing hearts, which is a downside, but too many upsides for me.

Curious as to whether partner has a 2 rebid (for me, either real diamonds or balanced with at least the diamond King). If he does, and bids 2, I can set trumps (2). If partner bids 2NT (not two of the top three spades), I'll suggest a real slow down -- 4. If, on the other hand, partner bids 3, that's good news -- two top trumps and the club Ace can't hurt. Other things could of course happen. Too much to predict, except as a "feel." And a lot feels right with a 2 start.

Not my favorite hand for this, though. The missing secondaries in hearts is troubling for exploration prediction, and hearts may well be superior to spades even on a 5-3.

For now, I would bid 1NT to see what is partner's rebid.

It would appear that the key is where are partner's values outside the spade suit, and what is partner's likely distribution.

a)If partner bids 2C: I am encouraged. I would like to take some forcing to game (slam interest!) action with my regular partner (e.g 3D=splinter). Without any prior systemic agreement; I would just bid 4S, hoping partner realises that my hand improved with his rebid.

b)If partner bids 2D: I am not that encouraged, I would just bid 3S showing limit raise in spades. Partner could have wasted values in diamonds.

c)If partner bids 2H or 2S: Again I would like to use some game forcing (slam interest) sequence with my regular partner (e.g. 4D=splinter). Without any prior systemic agreement; I would just raise to 4H or 4S.

In my humble opinion, the sequence has a lot to do with partnership agreements related to forcing NT auctions. It has a wide range from the good old "logic bidding" to the more modern structured approach.

I believe this hand calls for a 1NT response. Of course the partnership should have some way of reaching or hinting at slam after 1NT. (This hand grows greatly over a 2 or 3 rebid by openner, among others).

After 1NT partner rebids 2. After 2 3, I guess all will continue with 4, what would partner need in order to continue bidding looking for slam?

If partner rebids 2 after 1NT, then per force he has a 2 rebid, as I play, after a 2 response. If he would bid 3 after a 2/1 in hearts, then he clearly will bid 2 after my 2.

So, I can now bid 2, setting a GF and agreeing spades. I'm glad I didn't waste an entire round of bidding just because I have five hearts. We now have a lot of space to work things out.

Look up Zar points, and if you believe what you read about them, then you will see this a no brainer 2 bid.

What are Zar points...What are Zar support points? no long link pls.

It's short for Zardoz points. Some people think iys short for biZARre points, but that's wrong.
