Mirjam_3
another topic is a bit too academic for me and i dont like it there to go of topic...it is about td ruling on bbo. being a bit practical i thought it might be useful to advise td's not what they sd do but what they sd NOT do...i dont think the other threat is not valuable.. it is and of course more than this one.. but in the meantime this can be a thing to start too: it might be wise that a td does as he/she promises... and i give a few examples... If you dont say in yr rules you dont adjust, plse start than NOT to annouce in the first board you dont adjust... when the players already are there and they cannot escape. If u say you dont adjust, dont give me than an adjust in round 4... i am too blond to understand this. Dont add time before a tourney starts:i think it is not polite to add 5 minutes before the tourney starts when the waiting time was already only 3 minutes...and if u do so.. announce it in lobbyand dont do this invisiblea tournament is also a time event and not only for the director. Dont change the format after the players registered... it makes a diference whether u promis an unclocked event of a clocked one... Once i even saw the amount of boards changed... If u cannot follow your own promises you might be better of playing in fishy since Gweny knows how to host :D
aisha759
Oh I like this one! DON'T change time of tourney: (this one is different than the one you mentioned Mirjam) when it says 7 mins to tourney, and you think you have time to make a cup of coffee, you come back knowing you still have 4 mins left before tourney starts, and suddenly pooooooofffffff, you are sitting at the table, and everyone is waiting for you, and about to replace you with sub.... when you ask what happened, TD informs you that he started earlier because tournament filled up... if thats the case, make sure to mention it in tournament description.... I am one of the ones who always reads them... P.S. in this particular tourney, many players were seated, but not there  Aisha
Free
Last week (or perhaps 2 weeks ago - time goes fast) I was also going to play a tourney. It was several times delayed, and we started 10-15 minutes later, because the host had lots of work to aprove players (put them on a friends list or so). For me it's not that big a problem, but for some others it might. And since we're unable to play at a table about 15 minutes before a tourney starts, with such tourneys we can't play for half an hour! Changing the start time for tourneys is unacceptable imo, the players in it are scheduled, and everybody hates it when their schedule gets changed by other people. And in an exceptional case where there are problems with registration, indeed, a message should be sent to the lobby to warn everybody.Changing the roundtime is also very annoying imo. I have no problems with changing time in the first round, but later rounds it's just awful. Usually I'm already waiting for a few minutes, and then suddenly that "1 min remaining" changes to 5 minutes - AAAAARH! I hate waiting for slow players, even if it's because of disconnections... lucky_dom
Something I see worryingly often in tournaments is the TD hassling tables to play quicker when the round time isn't over. If you have 4 minutes left on the clock to play out half a hand, why should it matter if everyone else has finished? You should be allowed to take those 4 minutes, defense or declarer, to think properly about your plays, and you shouldn't be hassled to play faster. If the TD wanted shorter rounds, they should make a tourney with 6 minute rounds, or whatever is faster than they currently use. Dom
Maaa
Lucky_dom: Do you mean the general , lets say " 3 min WARNING - please CLAIM asap ;-) " or single TDrs coming to your table and shouting to speed up ? Well if we are talking about the warnings - I´d refuse to stay away from them. I really registered, they speed things up - many players (including me, when playing) sometimes forget to look at the tableclock. So please dont take them personally - they are just a hint for other players and VERY comfortable for the TD. Oh it also makes the scoring more fair - not so many Ave- Adjustments. From the TD point of view I registered an enorme raise of unfinished tables @roundchanges, when I forgot to send out the warning. Thx, Marta
lucky_dom
Marta, I apprecirate that giving out warnings can be useful, however a TD shouting out "TABLES 6, 9 AND 25 HURRY UP!!" when there is still time left on the clock is harassment. Giving a warning such as "2 MINUTES LEFT" is a very useful thing (when used in moderation!) and I wouldn't dream of asking TDs to stop doing that.
