open or pass

When you have a two suiter opening, this is easy, so lets assume we do not have one.

In second seat I am as conservative as possible, so I would pass.

I have no urgency to come in at once, because I have the boss suit.

But it is close. Give me the Jack of diamonds and I surely open.

As I do not have a M+m type 2-level opening in my basic bidding system, I would pass this hand in the first and/or the second seat.

Actually, I think I would pass even with the Jack of diamond. i.e. holding KJT8x

One pass to me sitting south - should I open this?

Thoughts please.

easy ....Just open what your agreements are.

if you have no 9hcp agreements....get some or why bother having any agreements?

I am also assuming we have no agreements on opening 2 suiter pre-empts.

I would pass this unless we are playing precision. There will be another chance to bid, and we may even be able to show both suits at our next turn. My only concern is partner passing this out with x Axxxx QJxx KJx or something :P

I would open this 1.

It is light, but all my points are in the long suits, which also have some good fillers, and I have a lot of playing strength. Over a 2 response I can rebid 2 as I do not play that this shows six.

The spots make opening acceptable since you may survive playing in notrump if no fit is found, they give you decent odds of setting up your suits. However this is still too much of a stretch for me, especially since I can easily get in starting next round most of the time.

I'd open this 1..... barely.

Same here.

I'd like this much better playing standard or in third/fourth seat because my 2 rebid over 1NT would be real.

However, because I personally play 2 as real even in 2/1, I personally would like that fact when dealt this hand. (2 for me promises 4+, whereas 2 could be a doubleton after a 1 opening or a stiff after a 1 opening.)

I pass, comfortably.

Not comfortably in the certainty that I won't regret it as the auction unfolds, but comfortably in that I do not see this as within the hand-types that partner would expect.

It isn't far off: make the diamonds KJ10xx and I'd open, while feeling that I am stretching, a little, to do so.

While passing can be problematic, opening can be even worse, especially if LHO competes or partner makes a gf 2/1. Imagine partner bidding 2... this is not the type of hand that may generate 9 tricks in a misfitting 3N.. whereas, with chunkier diamonds, it just might.

if we can make something, we may not be able to stop there.

I might open in the context of a big club method, but in that context, this hand wouldn't be such a stretch.

If your partner is use to lightish openers, I would have to admit I would open this with some uncomfortable feelings about it. If partner has the other two suits, we could get way overboard. If he fits for one of my suits, the odds are we will land on our feet. At imps, opening this will get you to some makable games that are not easily biddable if you pass.

I would not fault my partner for passing with this hand.

Teams First thght is to pass and back in later, but i am concerned whose hand is it----------so if doing reasonably well, if i open, it would be 1 diamond--ply 1d=min 4 cards and bid spades if pard responds(who has the Heart suit)

This is a style issue, so just do whatever you feel comfortable.

I think I would open in first position if not vulnerable. Not in second.

I finf it funny that this hand is IMO all about your agreemnets, as oposed to the other hand xxA10xxxAQ10xxx, wich has very very little to do with your agreements and style (Except maybe for opening the higher suit).
