Auction goes 1 from north, 1 overcall and 1 from South (4+ cards).....North continues with 3 splinter and East doubles, passed back to North who redoubles to show a first round control.

South tries 3 and North 4, South continues with 4 and North goes past 4 with 5.

South finishes the auction with 6...What do you people think?

Looks like an exuberant junior auction, but I think South should try to avoid the 4 bid. Or avoid the 3 bid. One or the other is sufficient with the club void.

Of course North may still go on. It needs very little for this to be a very good slam and it is tough to identify that.

If South's pass of 3 denied a cuebid, then I understand the subsequent 3 and 4 calls. Otherwise, South overstated his heart values.

Not a terrible contract, but 4 would be far more comfortable. 6 will probably make anytime both black suits break (which includes QJ doubleton of clubs) or the A is onside with reasonable black suit breaks.

Part of it sounds good.

I think the XX should set the auction as clearly GF and slam-oriented. In that event, I think 3 is right, but that Opener swhould bid 3 to show two of the top three spades, but that's just my style. So, 4 might make sense for this partnership.

I see nothing wrong with the 4 call. KQ looks fairly good in the context of the sequence so far. The end of the auction also makes sense.

Have I misunderstood the auction? Did South cuebid twice in ?

Maybe.

4 might be LTTC, in which case the answer is no.

4 might be a card-showing double cue, in which case yes, but appropriately.

If 4 is a pure big boy cue, then errantly yes.

I don't think this auction calls for a big boy cue method here, though. If South has the wood in hearts, he bids more than simply 4, IMO.

Should not this contract make? Crossruff and until good, then draw trumps, force A and enjoy?

Assuming a diamond lead, that will usually need trumps 2-2 as well as clubs 4-3. You can only cope with 3-1 trumps if QJ come down in three rounds.
