But I would also play south's double as takeout of spades, and no matter what it was I can't imagine why north wouldn't at least double 3NT. I agree with the double of 3N by N... but how does that get them to 5♦? maybe it should.... btw, I was the 4N bidder at the other table... Even if north and south both passed on the first round south could balance with 4NT, or 3NT over 3♠, and north would bid 5♦ in all cases. The bad result is a compound of a string of decisions, all of which worked wrong. I don't blame anyone in particular. (In fact, I hardly ever blame anyone in these ATB problems :)) Ok I supposed I could say mike gets the blame :) Even if he wasn't playing.. LOL.
