Better signal that everyone is waiting for you

Recommended Posts

It happens often enough that it is embarrassing. I think that it is someone else's lead or someone else's turn to bid. But everyone is waiting for me!

The only indicator is the color of your name, and if your cursor happens to be over your name then the color change is almost unnoticeable.

Also it is not always obvious that you will be playing the hand. Every once in a while I think my partner will be playing the hand,(declaring) so I leave the room to get a snack and come back to find out that everyone has been waiting for me. This is a little more difficult to indicate because we are waiting on the lead, not on me.

My suggestion is to use the center area of the display to show a big arrow or something to show who is declarer, and then your name should blink if everyone has been waiting for you for more than 10 - 15 seconds. The blinking will be noticeable from a distance. It should only ever blink your own name, never blink other peoples names, even if you are waiting for them.

As an alternative to the arrow, you could just display "YOU ARE (A) DUMMY" in big letters when you partner is the declarer. (Maybe the arrow is less offensive) :)

As an alternative to blinking just display the text "YOUR LEAD" after 10 - 15 seconds.

This is a great product overall, perhaps a little slow but quite good.

Do as the Earl of Sandwich, have the snack served instead. :)

Being a dummy is no news to me, people have told me I am a moron for years at the table-- i will think ie is just part of normal conversation. ;)

The other indicator is if you pass your mouse over a card, it changes.

The best indicator is to realize you won the last trick. You can even look at it.

You can change the colour your name turns to when it's your call, you can set up so a loud sound is played when it is your turn to call, and when you see a long list of 'play pls' on your chat window, you know it's your turn to call.

WTP :)

I change my colour to a very different colour from the rest to know whose turn(Normal is blue, my turn = deep brown).

If you're not around at the computer, no amount of blinking lights and arrows will be enough to notify you it's your turn. :(

I can witness this IS a problem for persons unused to BBO. Myself in beginning and some of my early BBO-partners.

another example: I was more then once shocked the BBO refused to move - and worse still: suddenly the cards began to play all by themselves against my will....

When you are unused, there is much to pay attention too, not even mentioning the selve bridge - so it is not difficult at all to go astray.

Of course, still today I cant chat much and play acceptable bridge simultaneously.

We oldies arent computer virtuosos like our younger pals usually are... :(

So I do second the proposal.

Click on the yellow cog at the bottom of your screen, choose sounds and then scroll down the left side list and make sure that the bar saying "my turn to bid or play" is highlighted. Then turn your sound to max. If that doesn't help then perhaps you could talk to matmat.....
