Wow I think 4 is nuts! 3 is plenty for me. If I get doubled here I'm already in big trouble. Partner will know if he has a spade fit without me having to guess for him. Or maybe he won't even save but getting the spade lead lets me go plus.

I voice of wisdom in the wilderness of 4 spade bidders.

I'm also a 3S bidder.

Obviously if it had started 1H - 4H I would bid 4S, but here a jump to 4S should suggest some expectation of making even if partner can't raise 3S to 4S.

ye wimps. bid 4 like real men :)

An alternative is 4, michaels.. lol.

Yeah, be a real man, look for a fit in your J9xxx minor when holding an AKQxxx major! :)

This game is about making tricks, not playing with spades as trumps :)

(It is??? :) )

This was another Gatlinburg Hand, and my dad had it... and passed.

I posted it wondering about whether 3S or 4S was right... Interesting.

As it was, as long as he bid anything we were in 4. The full deal:

[hv=d=e&v=e&n=sakqxxxhxdj9xxxcx&w=sxhtxxxdtxcaktxxx&e=stxxhkqjxxdkxxcqx&s=sjxxhaxxdaqxcjxxx]399|300|Scoring: IMPs (Lose 11)

Yikes.[/hv]

In a shocking twist of developments, it was mtvesuvius's dad's fault!

This will be my last post of hands with my father like this... Since I know that I probably shouldn't be posting hands like this. However I did that it was a legitimate problem of 3 or 4, regardless of what happened at the table.

Good idea, especially if he is carting you around to tournaments.

I am a 4 bidder here since most of the time the limit raise is going to result in an auto 4 call if I just bid 3 anyhow. I'll take my chances that the opps go wrong after my 4 inspite of also being vul.
