Person A argues that 20-23 are early 20s, 24-26 are mid 20s, 27-29 are late 20s, and that evenly dividing the three ranges makes the most sense.

Person B argues that if you are 20 or 21 you would never identify as "early 20s" because our society places special emphasis on age 21, thus those are omitted and that the ranges are 22-24, 25-27, and 28-29. Person B concedes that person A's argument is valid for ages starting with the 30s.

Who's right?

And a followup question: is person B right about ages 20-21

Wow - was someone a little too sensitive about being refered to as being in their late twenties? It seemed a little too particular to narrow it down quite so much but then when I read the specific question again my reaction was to think "Well I'd say 27 is mid to late twenties". This coupled with the fact that you can't really divide 10 years evenly into 3 segments as you suggested (your first segment is actually 4 years) here is what I would suggest:

20/21 - Early twenties

22/23 - Early to mid twenties

24/25 - Mid twenties

26/27 - Mid to late twenties

28/29 - Late twenties

Anyone older than this (ie 30+) should be ushered onto an ice flow and sent out to sea like the Inuit used to do. This would include me as I am currently in my late 30's (using either scale).

PS Person A and Person B should spend less time arguing over such trivial matters and spend more time trying to figure out exactly who it was that blew up the WTC with thermite.

How can possibly waste any time on that? It was Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and maybe one or two others. Michael Moore 'documentary' coming soon.

No 21 is not early 20s in the sense where I say 'they're in their early twenties' because I'd say 'they're 21... WOOHOOOOO!!!'.

Agree with person B. wtp?

As far as 27.... my brain says late 20s but my heart says mid 20s.... sigh

Can I say "depends on the person" and not be hated? It's like Ukraine says "how can we be Eastern Europe. The geometrical center of Europe is in Ukraine!".

I grew up in Syracuse, New York. It's about as close to the geographical center of the state as you can get. So I was shocked the day I learned that everything north of New York City is considered 'upstate NY' by the people in NYC, including cities that are below 90% or more of the geographical area of the state.

As per the original question, they both need a life but person B is insane too.

;)

My freshman year at Princeton I had three roomates from New York, and they all had attended the same private school in Westchester County. Coming from Wisconsin, I was surprised to learn that Ohio and beyond was "out west."

Of course, they were surprised too. Until I proved it, they could not believe that for nearly 1/3 of the drive from my home to Princeton I was still in Wisconsin.

It depends.

I mean, if you want to be strict as to even grouping, it might initiall seem that you have something like:

20-21-22-23 Early 20's

24-25-26 Mid-20's

27-28-29 Late 20's

The group of four might move, but 27 never fits into the mid-group.

However, in many circles, that's not right mathematically. Here's why:

20-21-22-23-24 Early 20's

25-26-27-28 Mid-20's

29, then, is "late 20's." Why?

29

Second 29th birthday

3rd 29th birthday

4th 29th birthday

...and so on.

When I became 29 I was a bit depressed about my age, I had a feeling that it was almost over.

A year later I experienced that everything remaind the same when I turned 30 and eversince I can't care less.

Is 27 mid or late twenties?

Like many things in bridge this is a matter of agreement.

It's wise to agree with partner when he feels strongly about something.

I did not vote.

lol, funny argument.

Well I think:

20 = I'm 20!

21, 22, 23 are early twenties.

24, 25, 26 are mid twenties.

27, 28, 29 are late twenties

30 = I'm 30!

So yeah it's late 20s for me.

(Edited: Just read what cardshak said, apparently we agree with each other)

This thread needs to be moved. This is no place for arguments to be settled.

But your poll should do justice to the argument and provide scientifically that you are correct beyond doubt.

early 20s -- 20- 21 --

Strongly Agree,

Agree somewhat,

Neither Agree nor disagree

disagree somewhat

disagree strongly

mid- twenties --- 22-25

Strongly Agree,

Agree somewhat,

Neither Agree nor disagree

disagree somewhat

disagree strogly

and so on and so forth.

for a small fee, i will calcalate the margins of error.

I once asked my father-in-law what it was like getting old. He said he doesn't see the world much differently now than he did when he was 21. He just can't do as much. I've never met a guy who sees this differently. Or a woman who didn't. One of my friends reply to this was "Do you see those women over there? To them, we're just furniture. They don't even see us". I forget how old I was when he made that observation. 27 probably. :P

It may seem funny and even absurd. I sometimes question it. Yet couldn't reach truth.

Does life or we are merciless to ourselves ? It is a world one must be firm at all.

Then do we really care well health issues no matter which age we live in? Or our priorities indexed to make money and try to have fun whenever its possible ?

Whatever it happens our anatomy doesn't forgive any neglect.

Teeth, hairs, eyes.

Good luck to all in next ages. Maybe it's a thing we can handle more carefully. Seems to me it's something like thinking 5 seconds more at bridge tables may bring extra chances.
