Edmunte1
You're South in these 3 boards, playing MP's:1.[hv=d=n&v=n&s=sq2hkj10864dq98c32]133|100|Scoring: MP1♦-(1NT)-2♥-(2♠)(1)pas-(pas)-?(1)-NF[/hv]2. Hanoi5
Pass (3♦ would be another choice)2NT (Lebensohl, planning to pass 3♣)2♣ (2♥ over 2♦ and 3M over 2M)
655321
1. 3♥ seems clear to me.2. Probably Pass, but transferring to 3♣ seems good too.3. Stayman, then pass 2M, or bid 2♥ over 2♦.
benlessard
number 1 ill make a take-out double (not penalty since with both M and a good hand ill double 1Nt) Q98 is great delayed support. W vs W passing doesnt make sense. number 2 ill pass. ive never gotten rich by playing 3m in an uncounsted auction Number 3 is a state of match thing. Assuming you have crawling stayman available i thing the bad result you ll get playing in 2M in a bad 4-3 fit (ruffing with long trumps) are inferior to the great results you get by finding the 4-4 or even 5-4 fits. But its a top or bottom thing... so state of match is crucial. Note that playing crawling you would often play 2S and not 2H.
whereagles
1. Not easy, but I'll pass. We got some defensive values. 2. Pass, unless I can sign off in 3♣. 3. 2♣. Then bid game if there's a fit or 2NT if not.
mtvesuvius
1. 3♥, it's a matchpoint thing. :P2. Pass. 3m at MPs isn't very good.3. 2♣ and pass 2M and correct 2♦ to 2♥.

benlessard
Bidding game on 3 is terrible at MP, you already got a good board since many pairs will be at 1Nt.

Apollo81
1. Pass2. invite in clubs3. Stayman then pass 2M or bid a non-invitational 2♥ over 2♦ (close to just passing 1NT) On (3) I would blast game at IMPs if partner bids 2-Major, but we don't need to even invite here since we will beat the people declaring 1NT if game makes. y66
same as Apollo, including jump to game on 3 at imps
jdonn
1 I would pass. They are wrongsided and who says they even have a fit? I'm allowed to defend partscores even at mps. They are also probably going to misguess the spade queen if it's a guess. 2 I would transfer to clubs, it's quite clear to me this is likely to be better than 1NT. On 3 I would invite after stayman if partner bids a major. It's true we will beat the people in 1NT if we pass when game is making, but what about beating the people who bid stayman then pass? Judging by the responses, that's a lot of people!
Phil
1. Pass. Double if I was really hungry. 2. Transfer to clubs - I'm not passing 1N. 3. Stayman. Hopefully we play garbage.

I wonder if this would happen in real life though. An interesting experiment would be to repost this hand in a year and have several prominent posters put strong arguments out for passing 1NT early in the thread. jdonn
Hand 3 also reminded me of another interesting point I learned maybe two years ago, that I can't remember who taught me. If you are 3415 then most people don't know that's a good shape for garbage stayman. If partner bids a major then dandy. If partner bids 2♦ you bid 2♥, and then pull 2♠ to 3♣ if necessary. Pay off only to 3262 (or a greedy partner with 3352!) but gain opposite many more shapes.
JLOL
Pass, clubs, stayman.

Mosene
3H 3Clubs - to play (whatever you need to bid to get there) Pass
Edmunte1
1. I bid 3♥ and got hit. Partner held AKx Qx J7xxx Kxx. Minus two after a diamond ruff meant a very bad score.2. Partner held Qxx Axx Axx KQx. Pass was the winning bid, but i think transfering clubs and passing 3♣ is just normal. 3♣ just made was average3. Partner held AKQ 10xx AJ10x Kxx. Opps passed and made 4 as cards lie. -180 meant a bad score for us, as -170 in 2♥/2♠ was popular
