Another IMP Pairs Hand

I won't double, defense doesn't work well with a (renonce=) void (sorry).

I could bid an unusual 2NT, but when partner answers 3 or 3 I have no idea if he has a little something to give game a good chance.

When partner raises or bids NT I introduce my diamond suit.

When partner bids spades I bid game.

Most likely opener is strong and will bid something and then I also bid diamonds.

655321!?

I think this is way too good to balance with 1H. I would double.

LOL, OK :rolleyes:

Maybe I am wrong but I would still bid 1 because

  • We have a 2 card discrepancy in the majors
  • We are void in clubs
  • We only have 15HCP, so even though the hand is very good there is still a good chance 1 won't be passed out - by starting with 1 I can bid diamonds later if necessary.

I suppose some of this doesn't matter, it is true that if we defend a club contract we do have AK AK to make up for our void in trumps, and the opponents are vulnerable too. Maybe doubling then bidding hearts is a better plan after all (certainly better than I thought originally).

Perhaps 2 should show any two-suiter, rather than specifically the majors. We're not expecting competition, so there's less need to specify both suits immediately.

I play this, but I play that if you don't have the majors you have a GF 2 suiter. It seems too hard to sort everything out otherwise.

It can be done. Advancer normally bids 2, then:

2 = majors, NF

2 = pointed suits, NF

2NT = reds, NF

3 = reds, FG

3 = pointed suits, FG

3 = majors, FG

Or something like that.

I'd never agree to play this though - too much to remember for a fairly rare sequence.

This is very close, but I have a feeling that partner has a penalty pass, and they are trapped wherever they go... In fact, as a sick fantasy, pass may be best... Give RHO 5 and LHO 4 and an 18 count and now pass is a winner. Anyway... Back to reality. I will double, because I will usually have them trapped wherever they go, and the vulnerbility is favorable. If I had softer values or the vulnerbility was reversed, I would bid 1, since it will almost never be passed out... I'll jump in next then. So I think double is best, as it leaves all options open.
