Overheard at the New York Auto Show: John Krafcik

By JAMES G. COBB

“Flat is the new up.” — John Krafcik, acting president and chief executive of Hyundai Motor America, explaining why the company’s sales, which have not fallen in tandem with most of the industry, are a cause for celebration.

Yesterday I accidentally insulted opps, and since I thought it is the hight of ethics to call the director on your own infractions, I shouted: Director, I am insulting the opponents!

Then one of the opponents said that it was condoned because I just said he was stupid which was a fact. The other opp shouted "Helene, stop seeking attention!"

What would you rule?

i got kicked out from a bbo tourney because i said to my p 'sorry, I'm a moron' and was accidentally sent to the tourney chat. my p and opps jumped to my defence saying my decisions were indeed quite moronic, but the TD accepted none of that

You should be punished for wasting the directors time!

Didn't you mean to say "No On-Topic posts please"?

This sounds like constructive criticism to me. The ability to give and receive constructive criticism is incredibly useful imo -- in life and in bridge -- and therefore off-topic in this thread.

And here we see another example of the stupidity of "zero tolerance".

Many years ago (early 1970s) an angry chap at a midwest regional bridge tournament called his overtly gay opponent "a lousy cocksucker". His opponent immediately summoned the director and complained loud and long - about the use of the adjective "lousy".

hmmm, maybe a right place to discuss such topics like: Is American Football a real football or only handball with strange rules ;)

:)

BTW: the term football orginally was to say you did it running or walking opposed to riding a horse.

YESTERDAY I WITNESSED AN EXPERT MAKE A MISTAKE

Poor you, I suggest you see a psychiatrist for it!

In other words :

"I am a kind of paranoid in reverse. I suspect people of plotting to make me happy. J. D. Salinger"

Otoh some opps act like friendly neighbors at tables. :)

We're going over to my folks' house for dinner tomorrow afternoon. It seems like Sunday afternoon dinners were somewhat traditional when I was growing up but they are rare events now. When my wife and I drove around France a few years ago it seemed like Sunday afternoon family dinners were still going strong. I love that ... and all the craziness that goes with it ... like the WC without the food and the intervening 6 days of other types of craziness.
