MarkDean
[hv=d=n&v=n&s=s82hakj984dkqcaj4]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Partner opens gambling 3NT as dealer, pass to you. What is your call?
Echognome
Partner either has AJTxxxxx in diamonds and thinks that qualifies or some strong balanced hand or pulled out 3NT by accident instead of 3♠ and the next hand passed or something completely wacky and wants to know if I can take a joke. I will bid 5NT and pass whatever partner bids next. (obviously this means I can't take a joke)
jdonn
Uhhhhh.... pass, let them figure out partner's hand and how to defend.
kenrexford
I think the obvious is obvious. Partner has decided to branch out into an undiscussed but plausible world where 3NT could be based on a running major. Hence, long solid spades. Opposite that, with any lead but a club there is a fair chance that 6♠ makes by establishing the hearts. A club lead does no harm if partner has a stiff club, or only three cards in clubs and hearts. I like 5NT, therefore. Just in case he has something weird, where 6♣ or 6♦ might have play also.
jdonn
I think the obvious is obvious. Finally something we can agree on. Just in case he has something weird...Lol yeah, just in case!
Hanoi5
This must be a language thing but, whose partner's opened 3NT? OP's partner or holder-of-discussed-hand's partner? 4♥ in the first case, 5♣ in the second (6♠ over 5♠).
mtvesuvius
5NT, no I cannot take a joke.
atlantajon
I think I'll try 4 hearts. If it really was a mis-click of 3!s...then I can live with 2 small hearts...and if partner bids 4 spades...then I will pass. If he however bids 5 of a minor...then I am still sitting here thinking about raising to 6. And I hope the OPPS have a sense of humor...as time is still running... kenrexford
I think I know what partner has, BTW, and 6♣ probably makes. I think his club Ace has a funny shape to the club, all pointy at the top.

I think his club Ace has a funny shape to the club, all pointy at the top.And we have a winner. At my table, the person with the hand in the OP did not seem fazed, and bid 4♥ immediately (within 5 seconds). Partner has: Axx T xxx KQxxxx, and had missorted the spade ace. Echognome
6♣ certainly has some play at least. Josh gets to the easiest contract to make however.

barmar
This must be a language thing but, whose partner's opened 3NT? OP's partner or holder-of-discussed-hand's partner? There were two bids in the auction, 3NT and Pass ("pass to you" means "the next player passed, and now it's your turn to bid"). That's pretty typical bidding language in the US.
