Phil
Lately there's been some problems here where you hold a massive hand and the opponents are bidding. Here's one I held today: AJAKxxAKQ9xQx All vul, MPs. RHO opens 1♥ as dealer. What say you and what is your plan?
Echognome
This one I plan to double and jump bid in NT, but we will obviously have to wait and see what develops.
jdonn
I think it's too good for even double then jump to 2NT. So I'll just overcall 3NT.
Echognome
I think it's too good for even double then jump to 2NT. So I'll just overcall 3NT. There's a good chance the auction won't allow us to have a single jump to 2NT when it comes back around to us, but in that case we can always jump to 3NT. What I don't like about a direct 3NT overcall is that partner will never know our hand type. It's much more likely we have a long running suit and stoppers than this balanced moose. At least if we double first, partner has a shot (although I know it's going to be tough to describe this hand).
jdonn
If the worry is we are misdescribing our hand then I think it's a lot more likely that causes the opponents to misdefend than that we miss a slam. I mean other than partner responding 3♦ to your double I'm not sure what you are hoping for exactly. Worried that partner has six spades and a doubleton club or something? Possible but pretty unlucky and they would still have to lead it on the blind auction. I still like blasting.
JLOL
I'd double though I admire jdonn
mtvesuvius
I think an immeadiate jump to 3NT is a gambling type. So I will X then bid NT.
mike777
I will try x If you prefer direct 3nt...npp.
whereagles
Dbl + 3NT
Phil
I just bid 3N. Caught pard with ♠KTxxx ♥xx ♦JTxx ♣Jx. A non-club lead allowed me to take 12 tricks when spades behaved. I figured there was a good chance diamonds would behave since pard should have shortish hearts.
whereagles
That is correct reasoning, I'd say.
