Well, you can find your 4-4 fit which may play better by bidding stayman. The is also something called Delayed Texas, which is used when opener has denied a 4cM. Now 4 and 4 are texas also... Showing 6-4. This would be what I would use... Stayman, then raise opener's major to game, or bid 4 as delayed texas.

Lots of people who play Jacoby and Texas don't play Smolen, so that sequence isn't available. But if you do use Smolen, that sequence seems better, because you can tell if you have a 9-card fit. Maybe it should only be used with a good hand, since the extra information is only of use if you might look for slam.

Delayed Texas is before smolen. The problems with doing it after smolen are what if you are (54)(40), and what if you are (46)xx with slam interest but not enough to keycard?
