April's Fool Hand

Recommended Posts

I organized a tourney today and thought it would be fun to have a very unusual start. After all it's the 1st of April. So I predealt the following hand:

North (dealer): all clubs

East: all diamonds

South: all hearts

West: all spades

See the results at:

On first sight, this hand is not very interesting and you would expect 50%

on all tables.

However, there are a few interesting things that came up:

All tables played 7 spades, but 2 did not.

1 opened the bidding with 7nt and was doubled (by West!)

The reason for opening 7nt was 'I thought I would be leading the first card'.

The other bid 7nt after 7spades and then doubled by East.

Pretty much the same explanation.

One could wonder why West would double 7nt if he knows he can not

score one single trick with his hand!

Some more notes:

- 2 persons opened the bidding with 2 clubs (why?)

- Most tables claimed after playing 1 card.

1 table after 3 cards, 2 tables after 6 and 1 table didn't claim

until the 7th card was played.

- Each table started the first trick playing with an Ace. Except for 1

who started 2 of clubs.

- A-2-2-2 was played on most hands that didn't claim after the

first card. They didn't care to use their imagination..

It would be interesting to see how many paranoid players there are too. Set the dealer with 12 solid spades and an outside A. Something like:

[hv=d=n&n=sakqjt9876543hadc&w=s2hd9876543c76532&e=shkqjt98765432dc4&s=shdakqjt2cakqjt98]399|300|[/hv]

See how many stay in 6 because of evil things maybe happening.

I dunno, maybe my sense of humour is on a different planet, wouldn't be the first time I've been told.
