whereagles
What's this? Pass, of course. Even if pard has no heart wastage, you need him to provide something like ♦KQ and ♣AK. Way too much to ask for. Actually, 4♦ was already a bit of an overbid. Better consider yourself lucky you found the spade (semi)fit and play game. JLOL
You are not obligated to bid on because you have the heart control. That said, your hand is very good for slam. Despite having a minimum I think you should bid 5H.
mtvesuvius
I pass. Maybe I'm a pessimist, but I really don't see slam here.
MarkDean
I thought I had already bid a fair amount for my hand, and had trouble visualizing a hand for partenr where slam was good consistent with the bidding, so I passed, and partner helped me with that visualization when he put down 9xx xx xxx AKQJx. If 4♣ just shows a maximum for the previous bidding and a Club control, then the actual result is reasonable. But, if 4♣ sends the message 'pard, I am interested in slam and have a source of tricks in Clubs' then the South hand is worth a slam try above game. From your point of view he could easily have had Jx Qxxx Kx AJxxx and still bid 4♣ over 3♠ and sign off in 4♠ over 4♦. With his solid clubs, he might have tried 5♠ asking if you can stop the enemy suit. 5♠ would be too high only when you have two quick heart losers and cue-bid 4♦ without the Ace. 6♠ can still go down if you held AKxxxx Ax Axx xx, but may be you'd bid only 2♠ with that hand instead of 3♠ ? hanp
Why on earth would 3S show a solid suit?
Echognome
I think the auction would have gone a lot smoother if your partner had started with 2♣ and I definitely think his hand is worth it given the spade support and source of tricks. Wow I don't. But yeah it sure would have worked better this time.
